“Hope to see another day live” is the first live dvd release from Polish progband “Believe”. This band was created by guitarist Mirek Gil (ex-collage, Satellite, Mr.Gil).
Their two albums “Hope to see another day” and “Yesterday is a friend” were very well received by both media and fans all over the world. Believes music will very much appeal to fans of old Collage, Porcupine Tree, Pink Floyd and Riverside. The music of Believe is prog and symfo in its purest form. Lush soundscapes, sublime Gilmouresque guitarwork, long classical compositions and intriguing and narrative singing.
The concert on this dvd was recorded at the Wyspianski Theater in Katowice on November 19 , 2007. This small venue is a fantastic location for bands like Believe: warm setting, great sound, a small crowd of music lovers and fans and perfect recording conditions.
The setlist mainly consists of songs from their debut cd. Two extra songs were added:
1 from its successor “yesterday is a friend” and 1 from “Mr. Gil”.
What really makes this dvd very interesting are the brand new arrangements crowned with the virtuosity of Japanese violinist Satomi Yasutaniya all swimming into a warm 5.1 surround sound. Pure magic !
This dvd also includes a band bio, a discography, an interview with both Mirek Gil and Tomek Rozycki, 2 bonus audio tracks, a photo gallery and various weblinks. This dvd is an absolute must have for fans of good quality progressive rock music. Do not expect a singer screaming and running around , a big crowd singing along , huge community chanting and people jumping up and down. No , this dvd is all about notes, passion, classical music and musicians doing what they feel is right: delivering strong musical emotions and taking the crowd on a journey of pure prog magic.
I am really looking forward to seeing these guys play live in some small venue nearby.
But until then I will take another look at this dvd and enjoy. This dvd is breathtaking !

“Hope to see another day live” is de eerste dvd van de Poolse band Believe.
Believe is de band opgericht door gitarist Mirek Gil (ex- Collage en Satellite). De eerste twee cd’s van Believe kregen laaiende besprekingen en veroorzaakten heel wat golven binnen het proglandschap. Fans van Porcupine Tree, Pink Floyd en andere Riversides zullen deze band beslist kennen en nauw aan het hart drukken. Believe maakt mooie, verzorgde, warme en lange symfonische nummers. Het gitaarwerk klinkt erg Gilmour en kleurt het geluid erg Floydiaans.
Het concert dat we hier te horen krijgen, werd opgenomen in het Wyspianski Theater in Katowice op 19 november 2007. De relatief kleine theaterzaal staat garant voor een zeer warme en gezellige setting. Alle ingrediënten waren dus aanwezig om van deze mooie avond een fantastische dvd te maken. En dit is hen ook met grote onderscheiding gelukt.

De setlist bestaat voornamelijk uit materiaal van hun debuutalbum “Hope to see another day”. Toch wordt er ook 1 nummer gespeeld uit hun laatste cd “Yesterday is a friend” en zelfs van de vroegere band van Mirek “Mr Gil” wordt er 1 song gespeeld. Wat deze dvd echt de moeite maakt, zijn de nagelnieuwe arrangementen van de songs die prachtig worden ingekleurd door meestervioliste en extra gaste Satomi Yasutaniya. Met haar prachtige vioolklanken tilt zij de nummers steevast naar een hoger niveau en doet het geheel bij momenten zelfs klassiek aan. Ik vind haar bijdrage zeker en vast een extra troef.
Naast een zeer knus, verzorgd en prachtig optreden, erg knap in beeld gebracht en badend in een warme 5.1 surround, krijg je ook een paar leuke extra’s. Zo vind je een leuke bio van de band, een interview met Mirek Gil en Tomek Rozycki, 2 extra audio tracks, een fotogallerij en verscheidene weblinks.
Deze dvd is een dikke aanrader voor fans van bovenvermelde bands. Werkelijk alle ingrediënten zijn aanwezig om iedere symfo/prog fan te plezieren.
Dit is een zeer goede dvd. Dvd op, plat op de zetel, wijntje bij de hand en genieten.
Ik hoop deze band één of andere dag live te kunnen bewonderen in een zaaltje hier in de buurt. Deze dvd is een must-have voor iedere fan die van kwaliteitsprog houdt !
