Gavin O Laghlen is a former member of Cotters Bequest and comes with his solo album “The Poet and The Priest” – a symphonic progressive concept album following the lives of two boys; their shred experiences of school, theatre and education; the road devided music, success, dealing with childhood, creativity, depression, revival and renewal. He amid layers of moogs, mollotrons, hammond and prophets. Gavin started playing bagpipes at the age of 11 and played for a number of years in pipe bands and in Highland competitions. Upon entering university to study a degree in drama, he added guitar, keyboards and flute to his list of instruments. During the course of his studies there was a gradual shift from acting, which was his major, to writing music for theatre productions. This tended to take the form of atmospheric pieces using synthesizers and banks of keyboards and was compared to the symphonic progressive sounds of early Genesis and King Crimson, The Moody Blues, Pink Floyd and Peter Gabriel. The theatre productions gradually evolved to became more complex and eventually ended up as rock operas - theatre pieces of between 90 and 120 minutes all sung and performed to a musical soundtrack with live musicicans.
Gavin also returned to his musical roots with the creation of Cotter Bequest a progressive Celtic ensemble that used Highland, Uilleann, Northumbrian and Scottish small pipes amid layers of keyboards, guitars and vocals. Cotter Bequest have released three albums and are currently writing and recording their fourth. Anne, who did some vocal work on this album, was born in Middlesex and came to Australia as a child. She is a successful artist designing and presenting a number of CD covers for independent releases. She has been playing bass guitar, keyboards and performing as a vocalist on a number of CD releases. She has been the founding member and bass player of Cotter Bequest and has appeared in numerous theatre productions. The music on this album can be best described as the best musical traditions of the early Genesis, Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, and Peter Gabriel but with a more modern feel of Porcupine Tree, Spock’s Beard, Flower Kings and some Marillion.

Gavin startte zijn muzikale carrière met het spleen van doedelzak op de leeftijd van 11 en speelde enkele jaren in pipe bands en in highland competities. Bij het aangaan van zijn universitaire studies om zijn graduaat Drama te behalen voegde hij ook Gitaar, toetsen en fluit toe aan zijn persoonlijke lijst van te bespelen instrumenten. Tijdens zijn studies was er een geleidelijke verschuiving van acteren, wat zijn hoofddoel was, naar het schrijven van muziek voor theaterproductie. Hierbij had hij de neiging om gebruik te maken van atmosferische partijen gespeeld op synthesizers en keyboards die jezou kunnen vergelijken met het vroege werk van Genesis and King Crimson, The Moody Blues, Pink Floyd and Peter Gabriel. De theaterproducties evolueerde geleidelijk aan naar meer complexe rock opera’s met een tijdsduur tussen de 90 en 120 minuten allen gezongen en vertolkt door live muzikanten. Gavin keerde ook weer terug naar zijn muzikale roots met de oprichting van Cotter Bequest een progressief Keltisch. Cotter Bequest heeft reeds drie albums uitgebracht en werkt momenteel aan hun Vierde plaat. Anne Domer, welke enig zangwerk op dit solo album verrichte, werd geboren in Middlesex en kwam naar Australië toen ze nog kind was. Ze is een succesvol artieste welke al menige kunstwerken verzorgde voor verscheidene albumhoezen voor onafhankelijke CD Releases. Naast dit speelt ze ook bas, keyboards en is te horen als vocalist op meerdere CD’s. Ze is mede oprichter en bassist van Cotter Bequest en werkte mee aan meerdere theater producties.

[p]De muziek op deze solo plaat kun je nog het best omschrijven als een traditioneel geluid datneigt naar de vroege Genesis, Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, en Peter Gabriel maar met een moderne toevoeging in de stijl van Porcupine Tree, Spock’s Beard, Flower Kings en een beetje Marillion.
