Brutal Assault Festival

Last year we wrote a review of three fine days of brutal art at the Czech Brutal Assault festival in August.

This year, volume 12 of the ever-growing fest will take place from 9^th of August till 11^th of August on a new location: Army fortress Josefov in Jaromer, about 20 kms from Hradec Kralové. The festival is known for its cosy atmosphere in a beautiful rural area and cheap prices and… of course three days of decent harsh metal.

Summer Breeze Festival

The tenth anniversary happening of Summer Breeze will take place from the 16^th of August to the 18^th of August at Dinkelsbühl, a small village between Stuttgart and Nürnberg. We could enjoy more space, more food, more music and more metal market last year; same thing goes for this year. While there will be bands playing at night when activities on both stages are finished at the Party tent.

Summer Breeze celebrates its tenth anniversary this year and this means lots of extras! The celebration will start on Wednesday 15^th of August in the Party tent where six bands are into a contest to open the festivities on the Pain Stage on Thursday and Impious will be headlining. These bands are Breschdleng, Karma.Connect, Last One Dying, Might Of Lilith, Stitch and Unblest.

Nightwish

New Singer

Nightwish introduce their new lead singer.

Name: Anette Olzon
Birthday: 21 June 1971
Place of residence: Sweden

Musical background:
I was raised in a musical family and I've been singing since childhood. My mom also forced me to play the oboe for 8 years! I toured constantly with my mom and her band in my childhood, sometimes I even sang on stage with them.

After I turned 13, I started competing in several talent shows. I joined my first real band when I was 17, it was a cover band and all the other musicians were older than me. After playing cover songs, I joined a band called Alyson Avenue, first just as a studio singer, later as their leading lady. We've released 2 albums since 2000.

At the age of 21, I played the leading role in a rock opera/musical called "Gränsland" in Helsingborg. After that I got in to the Balettakademien in Gothenburg. In addition to the already mentioned, I've been in several other bands over the years, I've sung in choirs, done studio work for various projects and I've even occasionally been a wedding singer. Recently I sang a duet with Michael Bormann (ex-Jaded Heart-singer) on his album "Conspiracy". During my singing career I've sung nearly every kind of music that there is!

In my earlier days I took singing lessons at the Copenhagen Music Conservatorie, in Helsingör, Denmark with a private teacher. Nowadays, when its needed, I take lessons from a private teacher at the Malmö Music University.

We are very sorry to announce the fact that Anneke has decided to leave the band in August 2007.
Anneke has several reasons not to be a member anymore. *We really regret the fact we could not find a way to continue together.*
However, we [the Gathering] will be working on new material with male & female vocalists. Expect a CD release somewhere in 2008.

With Anneke we've made great albums and did fantastic shows, which we are very proud of!
We had a great time! We wish Anneke all the best for the future.

The remaining festivals we will play together with Anneke. No new gigs will be scheduled.
The last gig with Anneke will be the Ankkarock Festival in Finland, the 4th of August.
Also the new DVD A Noise Severe as well as the double live CD will still be released this summer.

Dear people,

I wanted to send out this message to all of you to inform you that I have decided to leave The Gathering. After much consideration and some serious soul searching, I feel that it is time for me to change my direction in life and develop and search out new goals.

In all the wonderful years that I have been a part of The Gathering, we, as a band, have always strongly believed in sincerity: both personally and within our music. I have always been able to give one hundred percent of myself to the band and its music. Over the last year I developed an urge to initiate my activities from a different place in my heart, focusing on myself and my family.

In order to stay true to myself, the band, crew and the fans, I see no other option than to leave the band and pursue my new goals in life and music.

I loved my 13 years with The Gathering and I take pride in all the beautiful music we have made together and will always cherish the good times we shared on the road and in the studio. The decision to leave all of this behind has been incredibly difficult, but since it's made from the heart, I strongly believe that I have to go with it. Although it saddens me to say goodbye, I have made a lot of exciting plans for the future both personally and professionally.

Thank you for all the love and support and I hope we will meet again in life and music.

Future endeavours

Over the last 10 years I have turned many dreams and experiences into songs. I started recording a selection of the very personal ones during the past 6 months. We've laid down the basic tracks at the Waterfront Studio's in Rotterdam and recorded overdubs at The Void in Eindhoven, as well as in the comfort of my own home studio. I'm excited to send these songs off into the world and share them with you all!

I have formed a band called Agua de Annique to help me voice these songs. We will release an album called 'Air' in the fall of 2007. Besides the wonderfully talented people in the band, a few of my friends will make appearances on this album.

The lovely Kristin Fjellseth will sing additional vocals, Jeffrey Fayman has made a string arrangement for a song called "Ice Water". Heleen de Witte plays the flute and Timothy Conroy provided some killer trumpet work. The album is mixed by Jon Anders Narum.

Dark Balance

IMMORTAL SOULS and TRAGØDIA signed to DARK BALANCE

After signing PICTURE OF THE MOON and MENA BRINNO two months ago, DARK BALANCE doubled their artist roster with signing Finnish melodic death act IMMORTAL SOULS and Italian gothic/gloom act TRAGØDIA. Both bands exist for over ten years and DARK BALANCE is happy to sign these bands as they both already have important roots in the metal scene. The new album of IMMORTAL SOULS is titled ‘WINTEREICH’ and will be released on the 1^st of June 2007. Release date for the first full length of TRAGØDIA is set on 1^st of October 2007. Some weeks later TRAGØDIA will tour through Europe together with MENA BRINNO (USA) and SERAPHIM (Taiwan).

TRAGØDIA started back in 1996 and created so far a demo and an MCD in 2002 titled ‘All our Miseries’. The band played doom/death metal in the beginning, but because of line up changes their music transformed over the years into a sound that can be described as a combination of gothic, gloom rock and progressive metal. IMMORTAL SOULS started back in 1991 and released so far two other full lengths, a compilation double disk and some EP’s and demos. Hubi Meisel

PRESS NEWSFLASH - MAY 2007

The production of Hubi Meisel's 3rd concept album, which will be entitled "TRINITY", has been in progress for quite a while already. "TRINITY" forms the completion of a conceptual trilogy, which started with EmOcean in 2004 and was then continued with Kailash in 2006.

Hubi Meisel is glad to announce that his former bandmate in Dreamscape, Wolfgang Kerinnis, has joined him on this 3rd journey and will play the guitars on 5 songs. For the instrumental music, Hubi once again closely cooperated with French keyboardist/composer Vivien Lalu, and also the rest of the TRINITY crew consists of well-known colleagues. Onslaught

The British thrash-metal legend Onslaught have released their first live DVD on 14th May via Metal Mind Productions. After their reunion in 2005 and the release of the 4th studio album "Killing Peace" in 2007, Onslaught takes another step towards establishing their status as one of the greatest acts of that genre.

"Live Polish Assault 2007" will contain more than an hour of veritable thrash mayhem: dirty and furious guitar riffs, powerful rhythm section - all this havoc crowned with Sy Keeler's distinctive devilish shrieks. Filmed during the band's gig in Poland, the DVD will include a well-balanced mixture of some of the best Onslaught songs performed live! PAIN OF SALVATION: Johan Langell leaves Pain of Salvation ! The following is taken from the PoS website:

One of the world's best drummers has decided to be one of the world's best fathers and 9-5 workers instead.
We are sad to announce that Johan Langell has decided to leave the band, to focus on family. This is not a sudden decision, but something that has been pending for several years. As the band now rapidly continues to grow for each year, the time and commitment needed for being in studio and on tours increase. Not really wanting this, Johan chose to include the whole band in his doubts regarding this directly from the start, and now that time has finally come.

"The search for a new drummer has started, but Johan will stay for the remaining gigs this year, and has also offered to help teach any new drummer his or her parts. 'Whoever the new drummer will be, I want us to have a relaxed relation,' he concludes.

"If you want a chance to see PAIN OF SALVATION with Johan behind the drums, you need to see any of the shows we have planned for the rest of the year. I know that Johan, for one, will savour these shows, as will the rest of the band."

Producer and lead singer Ian Parry (ex Vengeance, Elegy) is proud to present his forth offering Consortium Project IV “Children of Tomorrow” for a release in July 2007. Unlike previous albums C IV is a more diverse rock metal production with progressive elements reminiscent of his earlier productions. Parry has spent more than a year on this epic co-produced production writing, recording and mixing with colleague Elegy keyboard player Joshua Dutrieux.

The song writing has been shared as on the previous Consortium 3 albums with Joshua, Ian and newcomer to the Consortium family, ex-Within Temptation drummer Ivar de Graaf. Consortium show on the road later in 2007, as a prelude to an Elegy reunion.

SIGNED TO PROGROCK RECORDS AND RELEASES THE ALBUM “ALCOHOLOCAUST”

Recorded in 2006, the record reveals, at the same time, a prodigious and profound respect and iconoclasm for the music that it post-dates. Some call it “progressive metal” or “art rock,” yet Invisigoth transcends these attempted reductions and speaks for itself – all the while echoing the revelation of the antique and exotic that is the hallmark of their singular, yet universal, expression.

With new inspirations literally in hand, Cage and Viggo decided to construct a musical statement with authentic, albeit primal, vision and purpose. Invisigoth became that animation incarnate. A concept for an album was culled from their tormented experiences and research. Entitled, "Alcoholocaust", the record explores the trials and tribulations of both protagonists in their search, and eventual discovery, of their artistic, animal, and rather Roman, natures.

”Alcoholocaust” is the ProgRock Records debut release from Invisigoth and can be found at http://www.progrockrecords.com/artists/view.php?id=74 . This album sounds a bit like modern Porcupine Tree meets Soundgarden with a splash of Kevin Gilbert, but with a sound all their own.

Another Messiah

signs record deal with Restrain Records

Another Messiah inked a multiple record deal with Restrain Records. The German label will release three albums from the promising Dutch post-doom metalband. Their first album Dark Dreams My Child will be released in Europe on 25-05-2007. Obviously, the band are looking forward to a prosperous co-operation!

Another Messiah, an energetic, atmospheric, post-doom band, is a Dutch quartet who received high acclaim for their ability to combine a wide variety of different styles, yet always remaining loyal to their melancholic and sometimes somber undertone. Influences can be heard from bands such as Opeth, Tiamat, Amorphis and My Dying Bride. The dark atmosphere is enhanced by the sound of a true classical oboe, which gives the band an “ear-catching” appearance and a distinctive own sound: post-doom.

Seventh Calling

Minneapolis based dark powermetallers Seventh Calling have revealed the artwork for their upcoming release Monuments, due out Spring 2007 on Melissa Records (NL)

The album’s evocative artwork was created by Jan Yrlund of Darkgrove Design. Finland-born Yrlund holds a Master’s Degree in Art History at the University of Amsterdam and served as a consultant to the reconstruction of Rembrandt’s studio for the Rembrandt House museum. He has created striking artwork for bands as diverse as Týr, Red Wine and Everon, as well as for Satyrian , the multicultural gothic metalband Yrlund plays the guitar and writes for. Atrocity

Orchestra for Werk 80 II recorded

Atrocity have been working with the Schorndorf Symphonic Orchestra in conjunction with the recording sessions for the band's follow-up to Werk 80. Alex Krull: "The long preparation for the recordings has definitely paid off. It was a lot of work, but worth it. The results sound amazing and I want to express my thanks and respect to everybody involved." The final tracks will be finished within the next couple of days. In April, Atrocity will begin laying down the choral arrangements.

Rock band Beyond The Labyrinth have shortened their name to BTL, to reflect the musical changes, and announce a mini album to bridge the gap between their debut “Signs” and before recording the follow-up “Castles In The Sand”

Uriah Heep

Uriah Heep regret to announce that, due to ongoing health problems, longstanding drummer Lee Kerslake is to leave the band with immediate effect.

During 2006, when Uriah Heep toured in some twenty territories ranging from Indonesia, India and Thailand through to Brazil, Peru, Russia and Bulgaria, concluding with a six week Acoustic Tour through Europe, Lee found the rigors of constant touring increasingly stressful and will now take the opportunity over the next few months to embark on a stringent campaign in order to resolve his health issues.

Comments Heep lead guitarist and founder member Mick Box ‘All the band are fully behind Lee in his efforts to become fully match fit again. For me, it is particularly devastating to lose not only someone who I have worked with for some thirty five years, but also one of my closest and oldest friends who I love like a brother. It is, however, in the best interests of both Lee and the band that a change is made now. This is an important time in the history of the band - We have just signed a new worldwide recording contract with Sanctuary Records and are about to commence recording our first new studio album in almost a decade and it is vital that there is consistency between both the recording and the forthcoming eighteen month long world tour to coincide with the album’s release in September’.

The band will now start actively auditioning potential drummers and we will keep you informed as events unfold.

Mike says he saw Uriah Heep at the very first gig they played under the name Uriah Heep at Salisbury Tech College on March 20th 1970, so he was there at the beginning! He says he is honored to be asked to work on the new studio album and he promises to make it a stormer.

In the mid-80's a small underground movement in Sweden started to emerge from small towns and suburbs. A handful of restless teenagers started to search for the most extreme music available, and a tape trading community began to grow. Eventually the teenagers picked up instruments themselves, and created what in a few years would dominate the world of extreme music - Swedish Death Metal. This is the improbable history of how it all began and evolved into the early 90's.

The book also includes a massive A-Z of Swedish Death Metal bands (about 900 entries) as well as fanzines. All in all the book is 500 pages long, and contains over 500 cool photos and flyers. About 30 central characters of the scene have been interviewed, and some of their anecdotes are as wild as the music ever was. Still, the main focus of this research is the music. After all, the fantastic music is the greatest achievement of the Swedish Death Metal movement.

All must have for all even slighly interested in Death Metal and it´s swedish branch.

According to an article on the Dutch web site Metalfan.nl, the song "Discord" will feature the Prague Symphonic Orchestra, while vocalist Doro Pesch can be heard dueting with AFTER FOREVER frontwoman Floor Jansen in the track "Who I Am". ANNIHILATOR guitarist Jeff Waters reportedly makes an appearance on a track with a working title of "De-Energized". Other songs set to appear on the CD include "Evoke", "Transitory", "Equally Destructive", "Withering Time", "Cry With A Smile", "Envision", "Who I Am" and "Empty Memories".

Threshold

Threshold have now finished recording their new album. The CD will be called 'Dead Reckoning' and is due for release through Nuclear Blast Records on 23 March 2007.

On the change of album title, band member Richard West commented "We decided that the working title 'Pilot In The Sky Of Dreams' was more suitable as a song title, it didn't sound solid or powerful enough to represent the overall sound of the album".

'Dead Reckoning' was produced by Karl Groom and Richard West at Thin Ice Studios, with additional production at Bray Studios. The track list is as follows:

Solitude Aeturnus

Metal Mind Productions is proud to announce two live shows of the legendary doom metal band from US - Solitude Aeturnus. This is an opportunity not to be missed for all European fans as there are no plans for additional gigs in Europe in the near future!
The warm up gig will take place on 10th February at a Loch Ness Club in Cracow. La-Ventura

La Ventura means " luck ", it's what we need to make it in this world !

This new Dutch band has been founded by ex-Orphanage(Holland's first Gothic Groove Metal band) drummer Erwin Polderman and vocalist Carla Douw.

Carla is a charismatic singer with passion in her voice, melancholic and mystical are the other words that mark her incredible voice.

The other bandmember are guitarplayer Saz and bassplayer Mike, both known from their band Badly Preserved. And Marco is the man who handles the synths within La-Ventura. They are responsible for the atmospheric synths and piano, heavy guitar riffs and the groovy rhythm section which are the main features of La-Ventura.

The band has recently signed up with the American label Razar Ice Records for their yet nameless debut album that will be released in the first half of 2007. Even with just three songs the label was convinced that La-Ventura was the right band for them! Since then it all went like a whirlwind for the band. More and more people are reached and touched by the music. In November the band will begin with the recordings which will be mixed and mastered in the USA. All is set in motion to make the release a big success. Both on stage as on CD, La-Ventura makes it all true. They are ready for the big works now! You won't be disappointed!

Dimmu Borgir

Norwegian symphonic black metallers DIMMU BORGIR have finished recording their new album at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden with producers Fredrik Nordström and Patrik J. Sten for an early 2007 release via Nuclear Blast Records.

This will be DIMMU's first "concept album," a story set in always-epic Medieval Europe that also serves as a treatise on the modern-day political and social abuses of organized religion. "There's this dude that works as a priest's assistant, and after a while he just discovers that he has nothing to do with Christianity," said Silenoz of the storyline, which he conceived in full before even a note of music was composed. "He just sort of has this awakening and realizes that he has different abilities and different powers and is leaning more to the dark side."

Romanian Show, new singer, new album

Sweden's THERION has revealed more details about their upcoming show with a full symphonic orchestra, choir and international opera stars, which will take place on December 9, 2006 at the Palace Hall in Bucharest, Romania. According to the band, the concert will consist of three parts:

1. Pure orchestral versions of THERION songs. For example, an opera version of "Clavicula Nox".

2. THERION + orchestra and choir perform various famous works by Wagner, Mozart, Saens-Saen, Dvorak and Verdi.

3. THERION play own songs together with orchestra and choir. Of course classics that everyone would expect will be played, but also songs that have never been played before, such as "Via Nocturna", "Eternal Return" etc. Also a version of "Siren of the Woods" scored for real orchestra and with opera singers.

Swedish multi-instrumentalist Snowy Shaw (MERCYFUL FATE, KING DIAMOND, DREAM EVIL) has been named the new singer in THERION. The group's new album, "Gothic Kabbalah", was recorded and mixed in Stockholm by Stefan Glaumann (RAMMSTEIN, EVERGREY, EUROPE) and will be released in January 2007 via Nuclear Blast Records. Snowy shares the vocal duties with Mats Levén (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, KRUX, AT VANCE) and two female singers. A full-blown European tour with GRAVE DIGGER and SABATON will kick off mid-January. Obituary

Liechtenstein-based gothic metal band ELIS has posted the following message on its official web site, www.elis.li :

"Deeply confused and sad, we have to inform you, that Sabine [Dünser, vocals] isn't among us anymore!

"During the band's rehearsal on Friday [July 7], Sabine suffered a cerebral hemorrhage from which she died a day later at the hospital!

"Out of respect for Sabine's family and friends, we have decided to take the homepage from the net.

"We need time now to decide if and how we approach further and we will not answer any mails at the moment."

Dünser was born June 27, 1977 and joined ELIS, then still known as ERBEN DER SCHOPFUNG, in 2001. ELIS recently completed work on the follow-up to 2004's "Dark Clouds in a Perfect Sky" at Mastersound Studios in Stuttgart with producer Alexander Krull (ATROCITY, LEAVES' EYES). A video for "Der Letzte Tag", taken from the last CD, can be viewed at this location (right-click and "Save Target As"; 6.4 MB, Windows Media).

Brutal Assault Festival

From 10^th – 12^th August 2006 the 11^th volume of the Brutal Assault Festival will take place at Svojsice u Prelouce (Czech Republic).

It’s difficult to say which band can be branded as the headliner because this year’s lineup offers up several giants of the metal genre. Great attraction, especially for fans of atmospheric or symphonic black metal are Norwegians black metal gurus DIMMU BORGIR. The next exclusive guest comes from the USA. FEAR FACTORY. Other representatives of Norwegian black metal scene are MAYHEM.

And now something for backers of the most extreme metal genres. MORBID ANGEL belong to the absolute death metal elite. For the “old school” fans are prepared several treats – grind core veterans NAPALM DEATH and no less assiduous hardcore SICK OF IT ALL, reappearance of death metal band GOREFEST and German thrashers DESTRUCTION as well as English ONSLAUGHT. Finnish AMORPHIS will introduce not only combination of dreamlike melodies but also wild Scandinavian rave.

Dream Theater

SCORE - Coming August 29th!

Dream Theater's latest live CD and DVD "SCORE" is currently scheduled for release on Aug 29th 2006 on Rhino Records (date may vary slightly in different countries).

The 3-CD and 2-DVD sets will be available seperately.
Both versions will contain the entire "20th Anniversary World Tour" grand finale recorded live at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on April 1st, 2006 (nearly 3 hours of music - over 90 minutes of which was performed with a full orchestra).

The DVD will also contain a 1 hour Documentary tracking the entire career of the band from the very beginnings at the Berklee College Of Music in 1985 all the way to the Radio City Music Hall grand finale. Including rare never before seen footage and interviews with current and previous members of the band.

Journey

Journey will have a new lead singer on its summer tour with Def Leppard while Steve Augeri recovers from a throat infection.

Jeff Scott Soto, who has performed with Journey guitarist Neal Schon, will step in for Augeri starting with a show Friday in Bristow, Va.

"Steve's been suffering with an acute throat condition since before we kicked off the tour with Def Leppard. We were hoping he'd be in well condition to handle the rigors of the road but unfortunately it appears to be a chronic condition requiring total voice rest," the band said in a statement Thursday.

Augeri's doctor will monitor his condition to determine when he may be able to rejoin the tour.

ProgPower USA

ProgPower USA promoter Glenn Harveston has confirmed that there will be a very special "all-star" performance led by vocalist Jorn Lande during his headline set at ProgPower USA this year.

Confirmed thus far to join Lande on stage are Zak Stevens (Circle II Circle, ex-Savatage), Lance King (Pyramaze), Michele Luppi (Vision Divine), Pasi Rantanen (Thunderstone), Mikkel Sandager (Mercenary), Michael Eriksen (Circus Maximus), and Mattias "IA" Eklundh (Freak Kitchen). Other participants will be announced at a later time.

Along with Lande, Swedish progressive/power metal band Evergrey will headline the two-day festival, performing a worldwide exclusive set featuring the Evergrey choir and the Poulenc String Quartet from Atlanta.

Napalm Death

Hello everyone. As you may have heard, we are back in Wales at Foel recording the next Napalm album (this place is fast becoming our favourite place to record!) Really, this thing is sounding absolutely immense. If you liked 'Code...', you'll really love this one, i think. We absolutely busted our arses to get everything ready, and the rest of the band really pulled out the stops to make some great, grinding music, with Russ Russell working wonders once again to produce that ND 'wall of sound'. I also have to mention Chris Fielding, the in-house engineer, who has also made a great contribution to
the proceedings.

I can give you some more titles right now (everything, including the ones you had before, are definite): 'Rabid Wolves (For Christ)', 'In Deference', 'Atheist Runt', 'When All Is Said and Done', 'Sink Fast, Let Go', and tons more. The lyrical debate is perhaps for later but, generally speaking, the album is (hopefully) a deep critique of religion and religious governance / restrictions from an atheist perspective. All jolly stuff, then. And the music: still fast and furious, raging riffs and a couple more Swans-style tracks this time (like 'Morale'), only progressed a bit more with even more atmosphere and a more rounded melodic vocal performance (if I may say so mysefl)

Davy Mickers

Not famous, but known throughout the world. That's the position Davy Mickers is in at the moment. He started by playing a few acoustic tracks on Arjen Lucassen's Ayreon album 'The final experiment (special edition - bonus disc)'. After that he became the drummer for Lucassen's new band, Stream Of Passion. They recorded the full length album 'Embrace the storm', which was released October 2005. The video for 'Out in the real world' could be seen on Mtv and became Superclip on TMF (Dutch music video channel).

Drumming with Stream Of Passion meant the start of a career as a professional drummer for Davy. During the European Tour he did with Stream Of Passion he was confronted with fans; enthusiastic reactions, presents and a lot of questions. That's why Davy decided to work on a website. "I noticed that people were getting interested in what I do. The gear I play and the projects I do drums for. Since there's not much information to find about me, I thought I'd give the fans a hand."

Mat is putting the finishing touches on long overdue album from GODDESS SHIVA (his first group, originally going under the moniker “Shiva”). Mat Sinner, guitarist Armin Sabol and drummer Martin Schmidt have recorded 50% new material and 50% of their classic songs for this album release. The album was recorded by Armin Sabol and mastered by Achim Koehler. A release is planned for October 6th on MTM Music/SPV.

In addition, Mat Sinner is writing and producing a new SINNER disc with recordings planned for September at Leon Studios, with engineer Achim Koehler. Mat comments: "I haven't been able to do anything with Sinner since Wacken 2003 and now it’s the right time to bring this band back to life. Martin Lopez leaves Opeth!

After several months away from his drumming duties in Opeth Martin Lopez has permanently decided to leave the group. After being plagued by illness and anxiety attacks Lopez decided he wanted to concentrate fully on his own project, currently unnamed. His replacement will be Martin "Axe" Axenrot who's been filling in for the last 5 tours and who also recorded with the band during the recent BBC sessions.

Mikael Åkerfeldt: " However sad I and the rest of the band feel in light of Lopez departure I want to thank him for his incredible work with Opeth and immense dedication to the band. We recorded some classic stuff together and he obviously had an enormous impact on our sound. I now feel very excited to hear the material of his own band. Masterplan

Sometimes ways can separate from each other: due to musical differences singer Jorn Lande has left Masterplan last week.
During working on the new album the band had to experience that both sides were having different ideas and wishes for the songwriting. While Jorn would have loved to push the style of the band more into the melodic direction, the rest of the band wanted to go back to the metal-roots of the debut album.
So the decision was made to go separate ways in the future.

Drummer Uli Kusch about it: “We are not really happy about Jorn `s decision, but on the other side it doesn `t make sense to continue if the ideas are that different. The music would suffer from it and the music is why we are doing it. We wish Jorn a successful future and want to thank him for everything he did for us. It was a great and interesting time!”

The band is currently searching for a new singer. “There are already some possibilities that might be interesting for us, but nothing is decided yet”, Uli explains. “We hope that we can already present the new singer on the gigs we are playing this year. And for sure there won `t be any changes in the musical style of Masterplan. We are currently working on the new songs.”

Sanity

Sanity ends their existence

After keyboard player Nathan Cairo and Arjo Miedema left Sanity by the end of 2005, the rest of the band decided to have a short sabbatical to think about the futur of the band.

And now they decided after five years of rehearsing, 65 gigs in two years, world wide airplay and the release of their two CD’s and a DVD to stop all activities with the band.

Ruffians

METAL HEAVEN welcome one of the US' finest Metal bands on board: RUFFIANS! The band debuted at the famed San Francisco rock venue the Mabuhay Gardens in December ’83. Ruffians then hit the Bay Area club circuit with a bang! Ruffians played many shows throughout their career securing support slots for bands such as UFO, Alice Cooper, Dokken, Queensryche, Saxon, Y&T and Slayer.

In January 1985 Ruffians entered Studio D in Sausalito, California to lay down tracks for their debut album. Released in May on Victory Records in the North America, SPV/Steamhammer Records in Europe & FEMS Records in Japan the album was quickly picked up by over 200 College Radio Stations in the United States as well as charting in Europe and Japan. The album received great reviews from the international and domestic press, and the band’s fan base grew much larger. Original singer Carl Albert (R.I.P.) quit the band in 1985 and was replaced by vocalist Rich Wilde. In 1987 the band went back into the studio this time with Rich on vocals and the result was a new 4-Track release featuring “Do or Die,” “Unchained,” “Through Your Eyes,” and “Only The Strong Survive". These tracks appeared on various compilations and were well received by the Heavy Metal Press.

In early 1989 the band split up, but the fans and supporters remained to this day, making a Ruffians reunion a reality when the band was invited to play Germany’s Bang Your Head Festival in June of 2004.

Ruffians are currently at Trident/Imperial Studios in Northern California recording their much anticipated new album which will be released worldwide October 2006.

Burning Point

The recordings for their third album (working title: "Burned Down The Enemy") started a couple of weeks ago in their hometown of Oulu, Finland. Anathema

On 29^th of May 2006 Metal Mind Productions will release a new Anathema DVD - A Moment in Time.

The main part of DVD was recorded in Poland at the famous Metal Mania Festival 2006 (the biggest hard rock/metal festival in Eastern Europe). The set list included their best songs plus a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb”. The guest performance was done by a string quartet. Bonus material - live video footage, video clips, documentary. DVD will be available also in a limited edition with bonus audio CD.

The artwork to "A Moment In Time" DVD was done by Travis Smith famous for his artworks for Anathema, Skinlab, Nevermore, Devin Townsend, Riverside and others.

Akerfeldt – Portnoy - Wilson

OPETH frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt has confirmed reports that he is planning on collaborating with PORCUPINE TREE's Steven Wilson and DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy on an as-yet-unnamed new project. "We've been talking the three of us," Mikael said in a recent interview with Tony of KASC The Blaze 1260 AM (web site) (the campus radio station at Arizona State University). "It started with me and Steve. Once we first met, which was like six years ago or something, we've been talking about doing something, like writing together. And since he worked with [OPETH as a producer] for a couple of albums, we got that whole collaboration thing put on hold because we were already working together. With him in the studio, it was a very creative relationship that we had, but we've never really written music together, so that's still… I'm 100 percent [sure] that that's going to happen. And Portnoy... PORCUPINE TREE toured with DREAM THEATER and he wanted to be involved. I used to be a massive DREAM THEATER fan — I'm still a fan of them and he's a really nice guy, good drummer, so that's cool. And we're looking at some other people, maybe to involve some guests. I think we're gonna start slow — it's not gonna be something blown out of proportion, it's just gonna be for the sake of our love of music. I think we're gonna do a song that Steve wrote for the 'In Absentia' album that didn't make it, which is a massively fantastic song. That's what we're gonna record first, I think, unless the band comes around and they record it as a PORCUPINE TREE song, but I'd love to record that song with him and then just write some stuff. And I don't know what it's gonna be like. It's just talk right now. [But] I'm sure it's going to happen."

Download Festival
Tool will headline the first night of the Download Festival at Donington, on June 9. Also just confirmed for the three-day event (which runs from June 9-11) are Soulfly, Cradle Of Filth, Soilwork, Arch Enemy, 36 Crazy Fists, Eighteen Visions, To My Surprise, Aiden and Bloodsimple.
Also Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell has announced on his official website that the band will be playing the Download Festival at Donington. According to Cantrell, this will be on June 10.

Rock am Ring
Alice In Chains have been confirmed to play at the Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Festivals in Germany, which happen from June 2-4. Also just announced are Opeth, Soulfy and In Flames. Metallica, Tool, Deftones and Trivium are among the other main bands on the bill.
