If there is one (double!) DVD worth buying, it must be this one. Even those who bought a month ago the double live CD will be blissful when seeing this. This DVD offers so much extras that you can watch it for hours and hours without the need for a pause. At DVD1 one will find the extraordinary Evergrey concert that the band did at the auditorium of the Storian Theatre in Gothenburg, a location of the 19th century. The repertoire includes songs of the complete works of Evergrey – in the meantime five studio albums – and one can see that the intense preparations of this event have led to a magistral registration. The show was registered by seven cameras. The sound could have been a bit better, but yet it is a delightful experience from the beginning till the end with eclectic performances of songs such as ‘Rulers of the Mind’, ‘Recreation Day’ and the vigorous reproduction of ‘The Masterplan’. During the instrumental ‘When The Walls Go Down’, the band is accompanied by a string section. Particularly keys and drums complete this song. The light show is most of the time very intimate, with a majority of red and blue lights. Another extra is that Tom was joined on lead vocals by his wife Carina Kjellberg in the ballad ‘For Every Tear That Falls’, a track from the first album ‘The Dark Discovery’. On DVD2 it are especially the superb mad documentations of the backstage adventures that make this a fantastic trip. You get material from every period of the band. These are mixed with a proper dose of humour, you just keep watching this, and everyone will see some things he recognizes. Like the band showing up near the Biebob venue in Belgium and their visit at ProgPower. The interviews are no bold pep-talk, but are full of relevant information. Another exciting part is the guidance through their own studio. For those who play an instrument themselves, some technical info is given about the studio and the instruments. And finally you can sit back and enjoy the six videoclips the band has made. Only this second DVD offers nothing less than six and a half hour of interesting material. This is one of the best DVD’s I ever watched. The limited digi-pack also contains a richly illustrated 28 pages booklet. An obligatory purchase! |
