nederlands Review

In 1997 we had the video ‘A Vision Of A Dying Embrace’ which was released on DVD in 2002. In 2004, the DVD ‘Were You There’ was launched, later re-released by Metal Mind Productions. And now we got another, new DVD ‘A Moment In Time’ which contains and extra audio CD of the concert when you buy the limited swing case edition. All these registrations have one thing in common: they were recorded in Poland. Anathema sure has a large and fanatic fan base over there, since long, for the band played in Poland numerous times.

Together with My Dying Bride and Paradise Lost, Anathema is one of the ensign-bearers of the English doom/gothic scene of the nineties. In the course of time, their music has changed a lot, but the main features remained a heart-rending melancholy and intensity. This concert, recorded in March this year at the biggest Polish metal festival ‘Metalmania’, has even a special surprise for the most devoted fans who saw their beloved band many times live on stage. The Liverpool guys are assisted by a real string quartet in a tasteful way. But on the other hand, the band swallows the bait vigorously. The setlist is a best of, covering their post Darren era and the Pink Floyd cover ‘Comfortably Numb’ remains a stunner to occlude this performance. In the extras (live recordings of 2004 in… Poland) they go a bit more back in time with songs like ‘Sleepless’ and ‘A Dying Wish’. An interview with Danny and Les is another cute extra. Furthermore it offers: a photo gallery, wallpaper and logo. Not only highly recommended to Anathema fans, but every fan of melancholic, yet firm rock will lap it up.
