nederlands Review

‘All That Remains’ is the third CD of Fozzy and it has become a real ‘all star project’. The band operates under the supervision of Stuck Mojo guitarist Rich Ward, while Chris Jericho, in ‘common’ life one of America’s most famous wrestlers, has a fantastic voice. The list of guests who contributed to this album, follows in the review of the songs. Despite of all these different influences, this is just a very rocking, groovy, agreeable album with ten superlative, own written tracks.

‘Nameless’ is a greasy opener in American tradition, chunky riffs go in battle with crusty vocals. It brings me back to the heyday of Corrosion Of Conformity, that southern groove mixed with an emotional approach of the grunge period. And smashing guitars! A strong start indeed! My favourite track happens to be ‘Enemy’, with a nice calm intro, then bursting out like a purulent pustule, on its way to a catchy chorus. A good idea to shoot a video of it. Chris has an excellent voice that yields no none, reminiscent to the best grunge vocalists. This comparison because of his ability to put the necessary emotion in his vocal lines, while on other moments he just comes up like an angry young man. Variation is the keyword, and this is tenable for the whole album.

‘Wanderlust’ has a slightly doomy atmosphere by its unwieldy riffs, shortly after the song accelerates and one can enjoy a marvellous guitar solo of Zakk Wylde. Title track ‘All That Remains’ offers some space to bassist Sean Delson despite its introvert character, while ‘The Test’ with its spoken fragments covers a dark undertone. Gate-crasher is ‘It’s A Lie’, because of the appearance of rapper Bone Crusher and female vocalist Alison Divine. It is the song I like the least, but this is just my personal taste haunting me. For further this album is full of steamy rockers such as ‘Daze Of The Weak’, ‘The Way I Am’ (with contribution of Mark Tremonti of Alter Bridge) and ‘Lazarus’. Closing track is another special one, here we have got some screaming vocals and thrash elements. I want to ask your attention for the guitar-work of Marty Friedman here.

Fozzy comes up with a surprisingly powerful album. They are multilateral and know how to write a good song. A superb album!
