This is the kind of album I can’t get really wild about. “High
Tension Wire” features eleven decent, very 80’s-sounding AOR-tracks
in typical Journey-style. The songs are cliché-ridden and
unimaginative, though. I know, it’s hard to come up with something
original in this music style, but the least I expect, is a few songs
that grab me emotionally, which isn’t the case here. For me,
Final Frontier sound a bit cold.
The main offender, though, is singer Rob Moratti. He fits perfectly
in the Steve Perry/Kevin Chalfant/Tommy Shaw-style of singers, whose
trademark is the high-pitched delivery. Sadly, Moratti’s voice lacks
all depth and power and he sounds very annoying at times. Not a
singer I can listen to for a long time.
This album does contain some nice tracks, like “Beauty And The
Beast” and “Sunset At Dawn”, and it will undoubtedly find its way to
many AOR-fans’ collections. It never really impresses me, though. |
