Das
Scheit is a German band (Ruedesheim) that was founded in 1996 by
singer Clint and all around musician Sascha. Supported by two new
guitarists, Casey and George, they recorded their third album
‘Superbitch’ during 2004 at the Bazement Studio in Wiesbaden with
the help of Markus Teske (Vandenplas). Mix and mastering was done by
Eroc, known for his work with Voodoocult and Philip Boa.
Das
Scheit offers us gothic wave metal with some industrial influences.
The music is slightly synthetic and the electronics have a vital
role, something I am not that pleased with, but that’s a personal
matter. The band reminds me regularly of Rammstein and in the wake
of these successful East Berliners, Das Scheit will be able to
conquer a place in the electro wave market, especially in Germany.
‘7 Seconds’ sprinkles a wide array of electronics over our heads,
but luckily there is also a solid base of heavy guitars and a catchy
chorus. Accessible gothic metal sometimes a bit akin to Crematory.
The cover ‘Coming Up Roses’ is always fun to hear. Enriched with
wide keyboard pads and distorted sounds they make something good of
it. ‘Much Deeper’ opens with clear piano notes, the vocals go in the
direction of rap music, but the glorious chorus will touch many
people. In songs like ‘About U’, ‘Earth Stands Still’ and ‘Catpiss’
the band rocks in a smooth way. Some industrial elements loom up in
‘Shoot Song’. ‘Long Walk’ charms me with its heavy guitars and
spoken excerpts and the album closes with two more introvert tracks.
‘Until I’ve Been Forgotten’ even presents us a bliss of psychedelic
Pink Floydish sounds, also caused by the constant primordial scream
in the background. Resuming this album I would like to say, one can
find a bunch of nice songs on ‘Superbitch’ but in the end it sounds
too shallow to talk about a real stunner. |
