Ah, how nice to hear something from Swiss singer Marc Storace again.
I’ve always liked his voice a lot, even though I was never really
into his regular band Krokus. His contributions to the two
Manfred Ehlert’s Amen CD’s were really great. His voice sounds
uncannily like the late Bon Scott (AC/DC), so obviously he’s
terrific on the powerful rock ‘n roll stuff, but he sounds
surprisingly well on the more melodic stuff as well.
Here he sings on BISS’s 3rd album. This band,
originally with guitarist Ralf Heyne and ex-Victory vocalist
Fernando Garcia, debuted in 2002 with a self-titled album. By album
n° 2, Garcia had left and his place was taken by Michael Bormann (Jaded
Heart), and now this third one has Storace handling the vocals.
Not the best way to get some continuity in a band, but as long as it
sounds good, it’s fine by me.
And it has to be said: this “Face-Off” does sound very good. It’s
pretty straightforward, melodic hard rock, with touches of classic
bands like UFO, Kingdom Come, Dokken, White
Lion, Samson, old Saxon and the like, while there
are of course those AC/DC and Krokus links as well
because of Storace’s voice.
My favourite songs are rockers like “Breathless”, “Rejected” and
“Calling”, which are melodic and have absolutely irresistible
choruses. “Lady Of The Night” proves that Storace also sounds very
convincing on ballad-like stuff. The only song I’m not particularly
fond of is the closer “Wiseman”, where the band has a more modern
metal sound. Apart from this, great songs all around.
An excellent album. Do try it out. |
