Robin Beck is a singer from Florida, who never really made it big in Europe, with one exception. In 1988 she was asked by the Coca-Cola Company to sing the theme to one of their new commercials. The song was called “First Time”, and it became a major hit all over the world. She has never been able to repeat this success, although she did a lot of performances with names like Steve Lukather, Paul Stanley and Leo Sayer.

After dangling with different musical styles in the late 90’s and early 2000, her new album “Do You Miss Me” marks her return to the rock scene. It’s a very passionate album, and the songs are written by well-known names like Marc Jordan (Cher), Amy Sky (Heart), Michael Bolton and Desmond Child (Kiss, Bon Jovi). There’s a great selection of songs here, from the more rocking tunes like “Do You Miss Me” and “What About Us”, to the more sensitive songs like “Find a little Faith”, “Bring It Back” and “Walk On The Moon”. There’s even a beautiful remake of Leanne Rymes’ “The Safest Place”.

The music she sings can be categorised somewhere between Heart and Bonnie Tyler, with some Pat Benatar thrown in there. Her voice is more powerful than Ann Wilson’s, but less rough than Tyler’s. The musicians are all very good, although they never take centre stage, with the exception of the obligatory guitar solo in every song. It’s definitely all about Robin’s voice. Surf to her web-site and listen to some of the soundclips from “Do You Miss Me” and you’ll agree; her voice has never sounded better. It’s matured to almost perfection, the ultimate female rock voice.

There’s nothing progressive about this CD, but fans of the genre will revel in the simple beauty of the songs, sung with perfection by the powerful and passionate voice of Robin Beck.
