Now here’s something interesting. Amplifier is a young
British band that seems intent on combining lots of different sounds
and styles, both old and more modern. There are obvious influences
from bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam, but also
Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin peek around the corner.
David Bowie is a clear influence in the vocal department, too. And
how about some Tool, Radiohead and The Verve?
A
couple of listens are needed to fully appreciate the subtle mixture
of styles. The album does have some great moments, indeed. The
hypnotic “Old Movies” is probably my favourite, along with “Panzer”
and the psychedelic “Airborne”. The singles “Neon” and “The
Consultancy” have a captivating quality about them, too, which makes
me think this band might well make it big.
Amplifier
aren’t able to keep me interested for the entire album, but they’re
definitely an intriguing band. This version contains an extra cd
with three new songs (of which “Glory Electricity” is particularly
good) and the videos for the singles “The Consultancy” and “Neon”. |
