Preceding the debut album that will be released in March
2005, Excalion has released a promo CD in 2004 with three songs who will
be present on the album too. In the meantime the band signed a deal with
Sound Riot Records. This Finnish band plays melodic power metal with some
symphonic elements and released earlier two demos.
These three songs are recorded as an exercise in the middle
of 2004 with the real recordings of the album in sight. Not everything
sounds that perfect, but one gets an idea of where the band is going to.
‘A Moment In The Spotlight’ opens with polyphonic vocals and keys.
Vocalist Jarmo Pääkkönen has a high pitched voice. Both guitarists are
doing a fine job. ‘My Legacy’ shows a bit more depth. It is obvious that
keyboardist Jarmo Myllyvirta is the founder of the band, for his
contribution is rather great. This surely comes to expression in ‘Reality
Bends’, the track with most symphonic elements. Let us wait and see if
Excalion will surprise us with their album ‘Primal Exhile’, for now it
sounds quite standard. |
