Darzamat has endured another metamorphosis. The previous album
‘Oniriad’ was recorded in the sign of experimenting at the new Post
Street Studio, an enterprise in which the band invested a lot of
time and money. It was indeed the most experimental album of the
band.
Since
then the band went through a lot of changes again. After a
cooperation of eight years with Rafal ‘Flauros’ Goral, Symonz
Struzek left the band to concentrate on his works at the Post Street
Studio. Daamr returned to the band and he is responsible now for
most of the compositions together with guitarist Chris. Flauros
wrote the lyrics, as always, assisted by new female vocalist Nera
who has an important role in the new Darzamat sound. But the first
hour fans can sleep on both ears. Darzamat kind of returned to the
original sound of creepy black/death metal with a dark feeling.
Enriched with all their recent experiences this has led to a
challenging album.
Strengthened by many gigs where the new material has been tested
frequently, Darzamat has come up with a more mature and deep-draught
album. The epic character is emphasized by the highfaluting intro;
the instrumental complexity and intermittent vocals create the other
ingredients of this voluminous cocktail. ‘Demise’ is a delicious
piece of breakneck speed death metal, while ‘From Beyond’ tends to
have illustrious black metal polka rhythms. ‘Time Of Obscure
Emotions’ has more melodic female vocals of Nera and in ‘Dusk’ we
can enjoy an inspired guitar solo. After a few spins you realize we
are dealing here with a unique band. Those female vocals have a
Slavonic touch, those creepy vocals of Flauros define the general
atmosphere, whether he grunts or loses himself into black metal
screams or mumbles necromantic lyrics, it’s all for the song’s sake.
One has to deal with a wide range of impressions, even in one track.
This means that the album needs more than one spin, but soon it will
settle down in your brain. There is a video clip on the digipack of
the energetic ‘Era Agression’. It was shot at the Brutal Assault
Festival in August 2004. Without any doubt this is the best album
Darzamat ever made until now. A band in development is a band to
cherish. |
