The secret stand-in for David Beckham : Rick
'killerfoot' Wakeman!
By John 'Bobo' Bollenberg
It is known throughout the world that Rick Wakeman is
soccer mad and I wouldn't be at all surprised when he turns up at one of
the pitches in Japan or South-Korea to support the British team.
Footballcraze is taking place at Prog-Nose HQ as well which is why we
are proud to deliver this Wakeman 'soccer' special.
Golé
advert : a very rare advert for the vinyl soundtrack which was also
released as an audio tape. Believe it or not but this advert was
published in the now defunct New Musical Express.

Golé
publicityshot : Rick looks surprised to have catched the ball
!
|

Golé soundtrack : the sleeve for the Golé
soundtrack album which still hasn't been given an official CD
release. Even a single was pulled from the album by means of
'Theme from Golé'
|

Golé : this is the very rare video of the film of
the world championship soccer 1982 of which Rick doesn't hold the
rights so that a DVD release is definately not on the cards.
Commentary throughout this film is by James Bond actor Sean
Connery (3M video MMM 6001 from 1982 playing time 100 minutes)
|
Hero
: also very hard to get is this video from the 1986 world cup in
Mexico with once again the original score by Rick Wakeman. Again the
rights are not given to Rick so a DVD release is impossible.
Commentary comes courtesy of actor Michael Caine known amongst
others from his role in 'Educating Rita' (Missing in Action V32004
playing time 86 minutes)

Nolan Appeal Programme : Anthony Nolan died at a
very tender age due to the fact that he urgently needed a bone
marrow transplant operation which sadly didn't happen in time for
him. He made sure though that the Anthony Nolan Appeal was
launched trying to get together as much money as possible for the
good cause. Rick has always been someone who wants to do his bit
for charity which is why he got some friends together on 14th
september 1975 in order to play a friendly soccer game. This is
the extremely rare programme that was sold on the day.
|
Nolan
Appeal selection : in the programme one could find the names of the
players who would perform that afternoon. On the left is Rick
Wakeman's XI and to the right Soccer Superstars XI
|
Red
card for Peter : after a dissapointing venture investing his money
in racehorses, Rick decided to invest his money in an American
soccer team : the Philadelphia Fury. Here co-investor Peter Frampton
is given a red card by referee Wakeman. The game against the
Washington Diplomats was lost by the Fury with 3-0
|
Rick
& Elton : for a long time Elton John was chairman of Watford FC
whilst Rick heavilly supported Brentford FC. Sometimes he would fly
all the way from Switzerland to Britain just to see a match and
support his team
|
Rick 1 : another benefit
this time with the long haired Wakeman (6th from the left) and to
the extreme left the wonderful Frank Spencer
|

Rick and Alan White : a great shot from the game
Wakeman Wanderers against Anderson Athletic XI which ended 4-4
|
Rick
and Jon 2 : resting together with buddy Jon Anderson
|

Rick and Jon : Rick searches for
the dressing room armed with a magnum of champagne whilst Jon
Anderson is running towards the dressing room in order to have a hot
shower!
|
Rick
team 1 : a 'serious' Rick with long hair and beard second from the
left bottom row
|

young rick :
from an early age onwards Wakeman was very keen in football. Here
you can see him in the middle of the picture scratching his
knee
