Pendragon

Liveosity

Pendragon are releasing a "combo" package of the “Acoustically Challenged” CD plus the “Live At Last ...And More” DVD in one double CD case, it is going under the name of “Liveosity” and it will be released on October 25th.
Basically, DO NOT BUY IT, unless you don't have these titles already or you really, really, really want the extra artwork etc, as it is the same as Acoustically Challenged and Live At Last.
BUT, we hope that it might bring some new fans to Pendragon and as it's being released at a low price, hopefully it will bring more general interest to the band.
With the problems of downloading and burning CDs it has become necessary to do this to survive. They have no other releases at the moment so financially they are relying on "Liveosity" to bring in some well needed funds!
Nick Barrett says: "I hate repackaging things and reselling them in a different way, but it's down to the nuts and bolts of survival now, never before has Pendragon been so up against it, it's make or break... of course it's going to be make isn't it!"

New album

Nick Barrett: "well, work has taken a bit of a British Leyland t.break...ie; not a lot has gone on... Well I say that because it seems so long, the fact is I have written bucket loads of material, the question is... Is it any good?

It's one of those things that when you start drifting from the tried and tested formula you get the heebee-geebees and wonder if you'll ever sell another record again! But, because you are testing yourself and pushing yourself in directions you wouldn't normally go you end up with a big leap forward, remember the difference between "Kowtow" and then "The World", I thought we were taking a big risk with "The World" but in the end it got fantastic reactions and was a real step forward........... hence the new album.

The new album will be called Believe, it will probably be a semi concept about conspiracy theories, [more of which when I get the lyrics more nailed]. Basically it's about serious global conditioning, and how we have almost given up thinking for ourselves or questioning things, hence the name "Believe", believe what those in charge want you to!

I am thinking of using
Graal again for the artwork [the Liveosity guy], I really like his style of photo images and artwork , kinda Floydy. Yes this guy is good, very talented, and I think together we could come up with some really interesting ideas for an album cover.

Spock's Beard

The Making of Snow DVD

This DVD (made up of footage shot on camcorders and edited by Phil Satterley) is at the least an interesting view into the making of a classic prog album; at the most it will make the viewer feel a part of the band, a sharer of the experience...and what an experience it is!

Here's what Neal Morse said about it:
"...this contains the footage of the making of the Snow album and two acoustic performances, my last with the band. I'm sorry that it's not of higher quality; although, in the video department, we never did have a really first rate one. But, here we are...here's what we have...here's how it was. I think this shows some but regrettably not all of the making of 'Snow', there's much that was never filmed because who wants a guy with a camcorder in your face all the time? But, what there is shows the band in all it's quirky creativity, humor and sheer brilliance..."

THE MAKING OF SNOW, Filmed by Neal Morse and Jim Harrel
Produced & Edited Philip J. Satterley

Plus:
2 COMPLETE ACOUSTIC CONCERTS!
The Good Don't Last * Thoughts II * Stranger In A Strange Land * Open Wide The Flood Gates * In The Name of Love * Carie * June * Looking For Answers * Solitary Soul * Wind At My Back * The Doorway

Running time is Approx. 4 hours!! (240 min)

Ayreon

Two albums of the complete works by the Dutch Arjen Anthony Lucassen aka “Ayreon” are much favoured by his fans: this is -- apart from the rock opera „The Human Equation“ which was released in May -- the stylistically and conceptionally similar forerunner project “Into The Electric Castle”, released in 1998. On both albums Lucassen perfectly merges -- together with top-class guest musicians -- progressive rock, folk and metal elements. As the second release of InsideOut’s reissue series of all Ayreon albums the double album “Into The Electric Castle” will be re-released as a special edition.

The Flower Kings

What do Janet Jackson and the FLOWER KINGS have in common? Nothing, one would like to say. But not a bit of it! Roine Stolt and his boys have experienced their own “Nipplegate“, too: A chain of retail shops in the traditionally conservative Middle West of the US found the cover of the new album “Adam & Eve“ too hot because “Eve“ showed more of herself than self-appointed guardians of their virtues wanted to expect of their customers. So especially for the US edition of the album InsideOut placed a sticker on the upper part of “Eve’s“ body – of course a sticker which is easy to remove!

Happy The Man

At the end of the 70s the American band HAPPY THE MAN released two highly acclaimed prog rock albums on the Arista label. Now they are back almost with the original line-up. Happy The Man play as sophisticated as Gentle Giant, as melodiously and harmonically as Camel, as well as in the same secluded and contemplative manner as the Penguin Café Orchestra, without sounding classical in any way. The musicians around HTM mastermind, guitar player and founder member Stan Whitaker also add a little bit of jazz to the carefully arranged instrumental songs on the comeback album “The Muse Awakens“ as we know it of Canterbury groups like Henry Cow or Soft Machine.

Anyone’s Daughter

The special edition of the new ANYONE’S DAUGHTER longplayer “Wrong“ features – apart from an extended booklet – two bonus live tracks recorded by the radio station SWR 1 at the Hermann Hesse town Calw in 2002. There the band performed at a concert in honour of the poet. With their album “Piktors Verwandlungen“ (1981), a musical version of Hesse’s fairy tale of the same name, Anyone’s Daughter had released their masterpiece, according to many of their fans. The new album "Wrong" will be released on September the 27th, by the way also the birthday by keyboardplayer Matthias Ulmer.

Marillion

As many of you know by now, our two shows at the London Astoria shows in July were filmed for a DVD.  They are pleased to announce that "Marbles On The Road" will be released in October.  There will be two versions: a 1-DVD version will be released to retail shops across Europe on October 11th, and an extended 2-DVD Racket Records version should be available from October 18th through our website. We're very excited by these DVDs - they had a full film crew (with 15 cameras on various dollies and cranes), PLUS the DVDs are the first new DVD releases to be mixed in 5.1 surround sound, so they look and sound amazing. Track listings and technical details for both versions are available at

www.marillion.com/discog/road

To promote "Marbles On The Road", they are also planning to release the live version of "The Damage" taken from the DVD as their first stab at getting a Number One single in the new UK Download Chart!  They hope to release this on October 4th - the price to download the single will be 99p, but unfortunately they don't have any more information than that at this time; please don't email them with questions - they promise to keep you updated when there's more information.

Guy Manning

GUY MANNING IS SIGNED TO PROGROCK RECORDS AND RELEASES "A Matter of Life & Death"

Guy Manning is primarily a storyteller and a writer of songs. A modern day troubadour, who chooses to compose songs that have strong melodies, depth and interesting emotive arrangements in order to tell his tales.
He does not always chose the most obvious of paths but seeks to draw the listener into his world for a while and tantalise before releasing them.

His recent work with Andy Tillison (Of ‘Parallel Or 90 Degrees’) on projects such as the Colossus “Spaghetti Western” and most recently as a full member of the very successful TANGENT project albums has now brought Guy to a much wider audience
ProgRock will be carrying Guy Mannings latest release, "A Matter of Life and Death”. Never one for predictability, the new album “A Matter Of Life & Death” is in fact a concept album based upon a character Guy created on his 1999 debut ‘solo’ album “Tall Stories For Small Children”.

“A Matter of Life and Death” will begin shipping in mid-September 2004 and can be purchased directly from

Focus

Thijs van Leer: Flute - Hammond Organ – Vocals
Pierre van der Linden: Drums
Bobby Jacobs: Bass Guitar
Jan Dumée: Lead Guitar – Vocals

It was the combination of Thijs van Leer, Jan Akkerman and Pierre van der Linden, which formed the basis in the Seventies for the so recognisable Focus sound that conquered the World. Pierre's distinctive way of drumming formed a great source of inspiration for many drummers along the World. It was with him that Focus not only produced the reknown "Moving Waves", but also the famous albums "Live at the Rainbow", "Ship of Memories" and "Focus III".
And now Pierre van der Linden is together with Focus again. We already saw him live this summer on the “Osschotse feesten” in Belgium. See

IQ

Martin starts work on new solo album

IQ's keyboard wizard Martin Orford has started work on his second solo album, following the 1999 album Clasical Music and Popular Songs. Martin: "I have started looking at material for a new solo album now that the workload associated with the Dark Matter release has died down a bit. There are quite a few tracks in reserve, but in various states of completion. I've got one song finished (from a writing point of view at least) this week and I'll be trying to finish others throughout the rest of this year with a view to perhaps an early summer 2005 release."

Karnataka

"Karnataka regret to announce that for personal reasons the band is no longer able to continue.  We would like to thank all of you who supported us from our early gigs in 1998 up to the present, it is largely you who have made this journey so worthwhile for all of us and we hope that the music we have made together has been something that will continue to live on after the band. Please note that all the remaining Karnataka gigs have been cancelled.

Looking to the future, the individual members of Karnataka will be working on new material, either solo or in various combinations and subscribers to the Karnataka mailing list will receive news of CD releases, live dates and any other developments as and when they happen.  Information will also be posted on www.karnataka.org.uk. We hope that you will support the future endeavours of all the band members as they will all contain part of what made Karnataka such a special band.

The band’s website will continue to operate and all the CDs and DVDs will continue to be available with the exception of the first album “Karnataka” (we have approx. 100 copies left and once these are sold the album will be deleted).

We hope you’ve enjoyed listening to us as much as we’ve enjoyed playing for you.
