King Crimson
“Happy With What You Have To Be Happy With” is King Crimson's latest
lesson in how to be shaken, stirred and stunned all in one sitting.
Following their sell-out tour with TOOL in 2001, the band have been
busy in the studio recapturing the clamour and the calm, and writing
new material for next year's big album release: The Power To Believe
(Jan 2003).
Happy., the new EP, introduces two momentous new tracks from the
forthcoming album, samples classic Crimson material, and is craftily
fastened together with haunting haiku. There is also a hidden track to
further intrigue Crimson devotees. An extensive world tour in support
of both releases is planned in March 2003
Featuring Robert Fripp
(guitar), Adrian Belew (guitar, vocals), Trey Gunn (warr guitar,
rubber bass, fretless warr) and Pat Mastelotto (drums), the EP has
been engineered by Machine (Hed: Pe, Pitchshifter, Clutch) with
additional production mastering by David Singleton at DGM.

To be released in early
October by Sanctuary Records, fans and new listeners are guaranteed to

NEARfest Press Release
September 18, 2002
THE REIGN OF THE FLOWER KINGS
Swedish symphonic progressive giants added to the NEARfest 2003 lineup...
NEARfest is extremely happy to be able to announce the signing of the
renowned Swedish symphonic prog band The Flower Kings as the 4th band
on the NEARfest 2003 bill. Featuring the stunning guitar work and
solid lead vocals of bandleader Roine Stolt along with the ample
talents of keysman Tomas Bodin, bass maestro Jonas Reingold, young
powerhouse drummer Zoltan Czorsz, and the silk-voiced Hasse Froberg,
The Flower Kings are one of the most popular new progressive rock
groups since the "big 5" of the 1970s.
Classic symphonic prog fans will find tremendous delight in the Flower
Kings' rich sound full of memorable vocal lines and instrumental
melodies with extended instrumental sections showing an unmistakable
psychedelic influence. Devoted Flower Kings fans will finally have the
opportunity to see the band in a splendid theater instead of in a
small club setting. We are very pleased to be able to host The Flower
Kings as one of the linchpin artists at NEARfest 2003!

Progpower Europe 2002
Everon who cancelled last week, will be replaced
by:
ANTARES (HOL)
In the year 2000, Januari 15th to be
precise, five Dutch musicians from the province Groningen got together
to play as a spin off of 'The Frigus Project'. Not agreed upon a
musical direction, it soon came clear that it would be a blend of
symphonic rock, progressive metal and sing/songwriter style. Antares
is not based on any band, but comparisons can be made with bands like
Arena, Jethro Tull, Marillion, IQ, Camel, Spocks Beard, Yes, Dream
Theater, Toto & Van der Graaf Generator. After half a year six songs
were ready to be recorded. The recording sessions took place at Square
Wave studio Groningen in the summer of 2000. The mixing process took
place in the spring of 2001. These sessions resulted in the album
'Choking The Stone' which has been released in July 2001.

IQ
IQ have now started work on writing the follow-up to "The Seventh
House". Although it's early days yet, they are off to a promising
start, and a release in Autumn 2003 is planned, with a likely European
tour to promote the CD. Most of the band members are getting kitted
out with the amazing Pro Tools hard-disk recording software for Apple
Mac computer, and this will enable writing ideas to be exchanged much
more easily and quickly.
Since reaction to the proposed re-recording of "Tales From The Lush
Attic" has been overwhelmingly in favour, Martin Orford has begun the
pre-production work on this project. Martin reports that "it's already
starting to sound great, just with keyboards and guide tracks, so it
should be phenomenal when the rest of the band get involved. I have
already done most of the work on The Last Human Gateway and The Enemy
Smacks". There is currently no definite time-scale for the
re-recording of "Tales", but the band members are likely to fit it in
with their other commitments whenever possible. There are no plans to
withdraw the original version of "Tales" once the new recordings are
available.
Mike Holmes is continuing to make good progress with the proposed "IQ
20" DVD. Mike is sifting through video footage taken from the 20th
anniversary show in London last year, and also from this year's
European tour, and he is confident that a great DVD can be compiled
from the material he has. A release date around Easter 2003 seems
realistic.
Huge congratulations are in order to John and Kate Jowitt on the birth
of their son Louis James in August. Kate and John already have a
daughter, Ellen.

Symphony X
At guitarist Michael Romeo's Haslet, NJ home
studio, the progressive metallers are putting the finishing touches on
'The Odyssey', nine tracks, including an 18 minute opus based on
Homer's epic sequel to "The Iliad." The story traces Odysseus'
perilous, decades long return from the Trojan War, including
encounters with all sorts of mythological creatures. Romeo claims,
"The new CD is much more focused and quite a bit heavier than a lot of
our past work." 'The Odyssey' is tentatively scheduled for an October
release, through InsideOut Music.

European Release Date: October

USA Release Date: November 05, 2002

Sadly we have to announce that
Everon had to cancel this year's ProgPower edition. The band
did not find a keyboard player for the live gigs,
in time, they cannot take the risk to give us an unprofessional show.

Glass
Hammer
New CD “Lex Rex”
The release of the new CD “Lex
Rex” from Glass Hammer will be on October 1, 2002. It will be their
seventh album. “Lex Rex” tells the tale of a Roman soldier, beset by
ancient gods and goddesses, lured on a quest for something
unattainable -- something powerful and tantalizing. He calls it glory,
and he searches for its source. His quest leads him from barbaric
battles in the frozen forests of ancient Europe, to the demon-haunted
temples of Rome, even into the arms of Aphrodite, Goddess of Love. But
that is just part one of the epic tale! Guests on this CD are Charlie
Shelton from Somnambulist and Bjorn Lynne.

Kalevala
Musea & Colossus Ry Proudly presents
"Kalevala"
A Finnish Progressive Rock Epic
based on the Finnish National Epic KALEVALA

After the successful co-operation of The Finnish
Progressive Music Association COLOSSUS together with Mellow Records in
releasing a tribute album for Finnish progressive rock "Tuonen Tytär"
(MMP 385 AB) COLOSSUS proudly presents its new project - now with
MUSEA: a concept
album based on the Finnish National Epic KALEVALA.
COLOSSUS has been in contact with progressive
bands and artists all around the world and the final line-up of this
monster release (a triple CD) is now ready. The idea of the project is
to divide the poems of KALEVALA into 30 parts. Each band participating
has chosen one part and will make their music inspired by it. The
songs can be either instrumental or with vocals and all vocals should
be in the native language of the band. All keyboards used on the songs
should be original 70's instruments (Hammond, Mellotron, Minimoog,
Clavinet, Fender Rhoades etc.) or be emulated with the best technology
of today and no drum machines or programming is allowed.
The deadline for the recordings is September
2002 and the final release is planned to be out by the end of 2002 and
it will be released by
MUSEA for worldwide
distribution.

Music
Coming releases, October 2002:
King of Darkness - Triple Whammy
King of Darkness is our second Japanese act after the successful
introduction of Kelly Simonz. King of Darkness is a trio with a
powerful classic heavy guitar sound.
Dave Martone - A Demon's Dream
Dave is probably the best guitar player to come out of Canada until
this date and he already has a strong following thanks to his
extensive touring and his two previous independent releases. A
Dremon's Dream sees Dave experimenting more with an ultra modern
production and even contains a killer cover of ...
Star Queen - Faithbringer
Epic Power metal with gothic vocals from our new super group. Singer
and composer Stella Tormanoff is joined by Thorbjorn Englund and Erik
Tornberg (Winterlong) and keyboard ace Bob Katsionis. This band is
expected to become HUGE!
Edward Box - Plectrumhead
Edward Box is a fabulous guitar player from UK. His style is very
melodic and his debut album contains some really good songs.
For those of you who have been waiting for the second volume of
Warmth in the Wilderness - A Tribute to Jason Becker part II we
can announce that it will be out in December or January. The album
will be a double dose of high quality shred from guys such as: : Marty

Platitude
Hailing from Sweden, this young 7-piece band is
ready to take over the world with their long-awaited debut album
"Secrets Of Life". Inspiration comes from bands such as Malmsteen,
Stratovarius, Symphony X and Sonata Arctica and it's to be heard on
this fantastic debut. From the fast openers "Deception" and "Just One
Try" through the brilliant "Raining Tears", the beautiful ballad "Love
Lost" to the grandiose title track, Platitude engulf their
predecessors and exceed them. The band is only between 16 and 22 years
of age, nevertheless they attach the song writing as super-skilled and
experienced musicians. Brilliant guitarists, heavy rhythm section, two
keyboard players and one heck of a great vocalist, often reminding of
a young Jeff Scott Soto. "Secrets Of Life" is recorded and mixed at
Jailhouse Studios in Denmark, with well-known producer Tommy Hansen
(who a.o. has produced Helloween, Pretty Maids, Beyond Twilight etc.)
turning the knobs and putting the final touches to Platitude's great
debut. (source:
