It's all here - from the mammoth riffs of 'Working Man,' 'Tom Sawyer, 'The Spirit of Radio,' and 'New World Man' to the contemporary crunch of their recent #1 hit, 'One Little Victory.'  Also included are special bonuses and rarities for both new and long-time Rush fans, including two 'authorized bootleg' tracks recorded during the 2002 tour:  'Between Sun & Moon,' from 1993's COUNTERPARTS album and never before played live; and 'Vital Signs,' from 1981's classic MOVING PICTURES and appearing on a live album for the very first time.  Also featured is a special never-before-performed acoustic version of 'Resist' from 1996's TEST FOR ECHO and an updated awe-inspiring Neil Peart drum solo ('O Baterista). [full track listing below]

The DVD includes a documentary by longtime Rush photographer Andrew MacNaughtan, with band interviews alongside rare rehearsal and backstage footage, plus multi-angle viewing options on several songs, and much more! Ayreon

As you could read in an earlier news update, already three names of the twelve vocalists on the next Ayreon were given free: Devon Graves (Dead Soul Tribe), Mike Baker (Shadow Gallery) and Eric Clayton (Saviour Machine)

Another two names are confirmed:
(every week, there’s a hint for the next name on
www.arjenlucassen.com , and the next name could be James Labrie, but that’s only what I think, nothing has been confirmed yet.)

Magnus Ekwall

The fourth singer is Swedish vocalist Magnus Ekwall from the hardrock band The Quill. He has an amazingly powerful voice which blew Arjen away when he first heard it- there was no way he was going to let the opportunity pass to have him sing on the new Ayreon CD. Magnus had never accepted offers to sing on other projects, but when he heard the Ayreon material he was so impressed that he immediately signed on.
The Quill just released their fourth studio album: “Hooray! It's a Death Trip”. Magnus is often compared to the late Ray Gillan (Badlands) and considered an upgraded version of Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Audioslave).

For more infomation on The Quill please visit: http://welcome.to/thequill

Heather Findlay

Heather Findlay is the female singer of the British band Mostly Autumn that recently released their 5th studio album.
Although Arjen knew Mostly Autumn, he met Heather for the first time during a recording session with Damian Wilson. When the time came for Arjen to find the perfect female voice for a part he had in mind, he remembered Heather and listened to some of her material. Arjen was so taken with her vocals that he immediately called her to ask if she wanted to sing on the new Ayreon. Very excited to be part of the Ayreon experience, she accepted the invitation without hesitation. Heather will also write lyrics for one song.

For more information and soundsamples of Heather and Mostly Autumn, check their website www.mostly-autumn.com

Camel

For those of you who have always loved the incredible sound of Andrew Latimer's guitar, you're in for a real treat.  He will be touring with not one, but TWO Vox AC30 amps for a stereo sound on stage.  This beloved amp is a real blast from the past and the very wellspring of Andy's sound.  The rehearsal venue staff have described it as 'heavenly'.
Ton Scherpenzeel will add another bit of magic with a Leslie loudspeaker to get that rich, vintage Hammond sound.  This is a real tribute to the Camel sound.
Colin Bass is reportedly in superb vocal form and Denis Clement is stronger than ever, playing with extraordinary energy.  This final segment of Camel's Farewell Tour is well and truly on the road.

BELGIUM -- NEW VENUE!

It pays to be a squeaky wheel.  The high demand for tickets for this sold out show originally at The Spirit of 66 has resulted in the show being moved to a larger venue:
Grand Theâtre de Verviers
Rue des Artistes
4800  Verviers

Check out the Spirit of 66 web site http://www.spiritof66.com and click on 'agenda' for further information.  This is a wonderful opportunity to show the band how much they are appreciated.  More than double the size of the original venue so...SELL IT OUT!

There will not be any more shows added to the tour.

MERCHANDISE:  In response to many emails, Camel will have merchandise on sale at the shows, including all 3 of the DVDs now on offer, Coming of Age, Curriculum Vitae and Pressure Points.  The purchase of merchandise is a direct contribution towards financial support of the tour.

ON THE ROAD:  The rising excitement surrounding the Farewell Tour has a swirling mixture of nostalgia and anticipation, with an undeniable touch of sweet sorrow.  All good things must come to an end, but this is also where beginnings come from.  Camel will go on, creating new music and the future holds much promise.  But no one knows what lies ahead.  It is the here and now that can be relied upon.  Camel are here, now.  In years past, they have given many of us memories of a lifetime and we have one last, special opportunity to make a new memory to hold together all the times that came before, a chance to say thanks and bid Camel a truly fond, Fare Well.

Univers Zero

We are extremely pleased to announce the confirmation of our Day One headliner for NEARfest 2004, the legendary Belgian symphonic Rock-in-Opposition group Univers Zero. Founded by drummer/keyboardist/master composer Daniel Denis in 1974, Univers Zero has garnered a significant worldwide cult fan base with their dark and challenging yet melodic, dynamic and emotionally stirring compositions. Cuneiform Records' reissues of such classics as "Ceux du Dehours" and "Uzed" have brought this phenomenal "chamber prog" ensemble's extensive output into wider notoriety. Univers Zero was re-born in the late 1990s and early 2000s with new albums exhibiting a fusion of progressive rock with emotional dark classical textures, presented with exquisite compositional skill. With a sound spectrum ranging from bleak Bartok-influenced acoustic chamber pieces to angular odd-meter symphonic rock-in-opposition, Univers Zero certainly holds a unique place in the pantheon of progressive music.

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of its formation, Univers Zero will be making its first ever appearance in the United States at NEARfest 2004 as a six piece band led by Daniel Denis on drums and UZ mainstay Michael Berkmans on bassoon, accompanied by violin, keyboards, clarinet, and bass. Next summer at NEARfest, progressive music fans can enjoy the exceedingly rare treat of a live Univers Zero performance. Be sure not to miss Univers Zero's riveting career-spanning 2-hour set concluding Day One of NEARfest 2004!

Eyes Can’t See

The story of Jessy, the malice

Seven years ago, drummer John Tol had the idea to write a Rock-opera. Being active in several bands as drummer and songwriter he was more and more emphasized on this piece of theatre music.

John recorded the whole piece himself to use it as a blueprint for the musicians who were going to play it.

In the beginning of 2003, John was ready to go and he needed to find some experienced musicians to make his dream come true. And he succeeded in no time. It’s not easy to find six musicians and put them on one line. But he did it and Eyes Can’t See (insiders know it as ECS) was born in March 2003.

After the first gigs, which contained only a part of the real Rock-Opera and were try outs, ECS goes on with the expansion of their repertoire. They keep on rehearsing “"Jessy, The Malice". ECS is now busy recording the part that has been finished...

Arrow Classic Rock Radio.

You can find Arrow Classic Rock Radio on www.arrow.nl or on the radio on AM 675. Some regions in Holland are lucky to find it on their cable net. (see on the Arrow site)

Since the end of 1996, ARROW Classic Rock offers a unique music oriented radio program in a “Classic Rock” format. The profile of the program is certainly different from existing radio channels and offers, because of the cultural value of Classic Rock music, a valuable supplement to the present radio world.

ARROW Classic Rock delivers a refined combination of classic rock music with not only the hits but also Album Tracks, The Best Of Modern Rock, Symphonic Rock and Blues. Music with an eternal value from the period 1964-2003 with high quality and cultural meaning.

ARROW offers, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the music that almost doesn’t get any attention for the moment. Music that many of us know, music with which we grew up and from which we played the LP’s from beginning to the end and back.
No extreme hard rock or heavy metal but accessible classic rock music from The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Eagles, The Doors, Bruce Springsteen, Santana, Fleetwood Mac, Eric Clapton, Golden Earring, Roxy Music, Queen, U2, Neil Young, Focus, Earth & Fire, Brainbox, Q65, Cuby and the Blizzards, The Beatles, David Bowie, Joe Cocker, Deep Purple, Yes, Pink Floyd, Steve Miller...

The Symfo 40

Especially for his 100th show, Kees Baars has conceived the plan to let the listeners make a list of the best 40 sympho tracks of all times, the symfo 40.
To his surprise, more than a thousand listeners send in their favourite Top 10.!!
Top scorers are Pink Floyd (6 tracks), Marillion (5 tracks), Yes (4 tracks) and Rush and Genesis. (3 tracks).

If you want to hear this splendid music, you will have to listen to Arrow on Saturday October 18 and Sunday October 19 between 20:00 and 23:00. (CET), when they will broadcast all 40 tracks. The Symfo 40: unique in the history of Dutch radio!

Ayreon

Every Thursday one name of the twelve guest singers on the new Ayreon album is released on www.arjenlucassen.com

The first three names are

Devon Graves

With his recording session scheduled for October, we are thrilled to officially announce Devon Graves from the band Dead Soul Tribe as one of the singers confirmed to appear on the new Ayreon album.
After singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Buddy Lackey left his former band Psychotic Waltz, he changed his name to Devon Graves and started a new band called Dead Soul Tribe, who just released a stunning second album called 'A Murder of Crows'. Both Arjen and Devon are extremely excited about working together. As Devon is also a very talented poet, he was also asked to write lyrics to one of the new Ayreon songs.

For more information on Dead Soul Tribe and Devon, do visit http://www.deadsoultribe.com.

Mike Baker

Mike Baker of the band Shadow Gallery joins Devon Graves in the list of singers who are confirmed to appear on the next Ayreon. Mike has already recorded his vocals in his bandmate's Gary Wehrkamp's studio.
Mike and Arjen have become good friends over the years and when Arjen asked Mike whether he was interested to perform this particular (and rather unusual) part he had in mind for him, Mike was extremely excited and could barely wait to have a go at it. This has turned out to be a great and very fun experience for the both of them... almost too much fun.  We can't wait to hear the results!!

Find out more about Mike Baker and Shadow Gallery on www.shadowgallery.com

Eric Clayton

The third singer confirmed to appear on the next Ayreon beside Devon Graves and Mike Baker, is Eric Clayton from the band Saviour Machine.
A few years ago Arjen's attention was drawn to the operatic and characteristic voice of Eric. When time had come to select singers for the new Ayreon, Arjen did not hesitate and contacted Eric as one of the first singers. Pleasantly surprised by Arjen's request, Eric was very intrigued by the idea, as he never really sings on other projects.
When Eric heard the Ayreon CDs, he was convinced this was something he really wanted to do. Soon Eric will come to the Netherlands to record his vocals at the Electric Castle.

To find out more about Saviour Machine, visit www.saviourmachine.com

So every Thursday on www.arjenlucassen.com you’ll find an extra name.

Rick Wakeman

  • On Friday October 10th, at 22:50 (CET), you can watch “Grumpy Old Men” on BBC2.
This Series is taking an in-depth look at men aged between 35 and 54, very probably the grumpiest sector of our society. Contributors including John Peel, Rick Wakeman, Will Self and Bob Geldof complain about such evils of modern life as designer labels, body-piercing, fast food and call centres.
  • If you’re a guest on the International Record Fair in Wembley Arena (London) on November 30th you can run into Rick Wakeman. He will be there to sign his newest album “Out There”.
