Dream Theater
The New Album
On Friday February 25th 2005, Dream Theater wrapped up recording on
their latest album. Mixing will be begin on Monday February 28th and
the record will be delivered to the label in Mid-March. A release is
expected for sometime around May/June through Atlantic Records.
Dream Theater began writing and recording their latest album last
November at the world famous Hit Factory studios in New York City.
(everybody from Michael Jackson, John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen,
Madonna, Britney Spears, U2, Mariah Carey, REM, etc. etc. have all
recorded at the legendary studio) As has been reported in the media
several weeks ago, the famous recording studio is closing down upon
the completion of Dream Theater's recording session.
This album will hold the distinction of being the VERY LAST album
ever recorded at the Hit Factory in NYC. (the first was Stevie
Wonder's "Songs In The Key Of Life") After the Dream Theater
sessions ended on Friday night, the lights were turned off and doors
were locked to the world famous studio - ending an era in the music
industry....

The Tangent
First up is the news that there will be a release of a LIVE ALBUM in
the near future. This is to be released as a limited edition CD. The
single CD contains 80 minutes of the Tangent captured live on
multitrack, onstage at the Colos-Saal in Aschaffenburg on Nov 3
2004. NOT ALL the tracks played that night are present (it was a 2
hours plus show!!), but tracks include the full "In Darkest Dreams"
, "The Canterbury Sequence" and "The World That we Drive Through"...
amongst others. The album will be released as a kind of official
bootleg on PROGJAM records, and will only be available on mail order
or at concerts. It represents the last night of an amazing tour, and
probably the last time that that particular lineup of the band (Tillison/
Baine/ Stolt/ Csorsz/ Reingold) would play together. "The first
chapter ended on a high note" says Andy, "and you can hear the fun
we were having on the recordings... "

For Absent Friends
Hans
van Lint, singer of “For Absent Friends” has been asked as guest to
sing with the famous French rock band “Ange”. This show will be on
the fanclub day of Ange on October 15th in Le Havre in
France.
Hans
van Lint will perform the song “Billy” and he’s the first one from
abroad who will have this chance.
For
Absent Friends is recording a new album now, containing the track
“Billy” in a new arrangement. This arrangement was the reason for
the French band to invite Hans for their show.

Liquid Scarlet
NEW ALBUM HALFWAY
FINISHED -
Swedish proggers Liquid Scarlet, who had a success with their
Anekdoten/Anglagard sounding debut album, is now halfway through the
recordings of the follow-up and hope to have it out sometime during
autumn 2005. Rumours are that they with their new material are
developing towards a more distinct sound of their own which is a bit
more melodic and vocal based, but yet within the realms for the
Liquid Scarlet sound.

Brother Ape
BROTHER APE SIGNED
TO PROGRESS RECORDS -
Brother Ape
is a very fine act consisting of four very talented as well as
skilled musicians. Stefan Damicolas (vocals, guitars), who is
writing most of the material with all tracks arranged together with
the rest of the band, Peter Dahlstrom (vocals, bass, keyboards),
Gunnar Maxén (bass, keyboards, vocals) and Max Bergman (drums,
percussion).
Musically their sound is a unique blend of progressive rock and
fusion. At times chord changes are somewhat in the vein of 70's
fusion bands such as Weather Report or Brand X, but performed with
quite heavy, but also kind of sophisticated guitars rather than 70's
keyboard sounds.
They've also got one foot in the more traditional progressive rock
style with Saga, Yes, Rush and maybe also some A.C.T. influences
with the end result creating an original yet accessible sound of
their own. Dashes of Zappa's rockier style can also be found in
their music. Especially in the opening track "The Jerk".
In late 2003 they printed 500 copies of their debut album mainly
sold at concerts.

It's a very fine album, but a bit short (37 minutes) so therefore we
will soon have it re-released on the Progress Records label with a
couple of very good tracks added to it.
Release date March 28.

Musea Records
The Spaghetti Epic
What
was the link between Progressive rock and "Once Upon A Time In The
West" ? Probably none, until the French label Musea and the Finnish
fanzine Colossus came to release "The Spaghetti Epic - Six Modern
Prog Bands For Six Seventies Prog Suites". As indicated by its name,
this double-album musically revisits Sergio LEONE’s famous cinema
masterpiece that highlighted the so-called spaghetti-western. Then
HAIKARA (Finland), Nicola RANDONE (Italy), TILION (Italy), LA VOCE
DEL VENTO (British band created on this occasion by the duo of
PARALLEL OR 90 DEGREES and THE TANGENT: Guy MANNING & Andy TILLISON.),
TAPROBAN (Italy) and TRION (Netherlands) appear on the menu of this
"dance with death", according to the director’s words. Obviously,
the contribution of the leading lights of the genre, mostly Italian
musicians (BANCO DEL MUTUO SOCCORSO, PREMIATA FORNERIA MARCONI, LE
ORME...), are not forgotten. This second collective work takes
further the success of the brilliant "Kalevala - A Finnish
Progressive Rock Epic" (2003), which was a triple concept-album to
which thirty groups had taken part with enthusiasm ! Taste it "al
dente"...

Until the end of March, you can get a 35% reduction for this album

The Colossus of
Rhodes
After the success encountered by the KALEVALA and THE SPAGHETTI EPIC
projects, the French label Musea and the Finnish fanzine Colossus
are associated once again for a titanic piece of work: THE COLOSSUS
OF RHODES. Subtitled "The Seventh Progressive Rock Wonder", this new
double-CD is based on one of the Seven Wonders of the World. This is
also the main theme of a movie directed during the Fifties by Sergio
LEONE, an obvious link with the previous project. An
Italian-dominated international cast (LEVIATHAN, GREENWALL, SINKADUS,
MAD CRAYON, VELVET DESPERADOS and REVELATION) has been chosen for
that matter. In more than twenty minutes, every band has been given
the chance to display its own interpretation of the work. Once
again, the spirit of the masters of Seventies symphonic Progressive
rock has been faithfully observed, including the wide range of the
sounds of that era: analogic keyboards, Mellotron, no electronic
drumkit... The result is splendid, as for the booklet that is both
luxuous and complete, and enhanced by a funny black and white comic
! The sleeve is once again designed by Paul WHITEHEAD, the author of
the famous illustrations included in the first GENESIS albums.
Here's a masterpiece that will surely please the true fans of
GENESIS, YES or PINK FLOYD. Amongst others !

The Flower Kings
A NEW DRUMMER!!
Zoltan Csorsz is no longer drumming for The Flower Kings.
After months of discussions, anguish and hard thinking the band have
decided that Zoltan is, despite his obvious skills and virtuosity,
not the drummer the Flowerkings complex music require.
We
like to present to you Marcus Liliequist. Marcus is a 24 year old
drummer from Malmoe, Sweden, that after finishing his musical
education (same as Zoltan) have been playing and recording in
various styles, leaning mostly towards rock.
Marcus is a hard working drummer and very much in demand in sessions
and touring, but have now decided that he wanted to be in a band and
what better band is there if you want to express all passion or
weirdness than "The FlowerKings"!!??

IQ
It is with enormous sadness that we have to announce Paul Cook's
decision to leave IQ. His solid and inventive drumming has been the
backbone of the band for 23 years and it goes without saying that
Mike, Martin, Peter and John are all extremely sorry to see him go.
Cookie’s departure marks the end of a long and illustrious era for
IQ and the start of a challenging new phase.
Here are some words from Cookie himself:
"Dear all,
After what seems like a lifetime with the band, I find myself in
need of a change of life so I'm off to the highlands of Scotland to
roam about a bit and generally find myself!!! Sarah and I will be
moving to the far north to pursue a hunting, fishing and shooting
kind of life - probably.
I
wish the band and my successor all the best for the future.
Cookie"
The live dates in July will be Cookie's final appearances with IQ.
