Neal Morse - Transatlantic
Neal Morse - The
Transatlantic
Demos
At
the suggestion of Mike Portnoy, Neal has put together a disc of demos
and a few clips from his hand held cassette recorder from as far back
as 1992 and up into 2000. Neal says "I think the coolest thing about
this CD is that you get to hear what I originally brought to the guys,
which shows you where they took it. I was real surprised when I
listened back. I had forgotten all the different turns the music took
and it was really fun listening to it again." A fascinating look
inside the mind of the man who has been the driving force behind the
best prog of the last 10 years, this release is a must have for all
Transatlantic
fans.
The
art package is made up of liner notes from Neal telling what he
remembers about writing each song, original lyric sheets and unused
photos of the band.

Terry Bozzio
THURSDAY APRIL 10, 20.00h: An Evening with TERRY BOZZIO, SOLODRUMS in
concert
Zaal Casino on the Grote
Markt in Diest (Belgium)

TERRY BOZZIO
was born on December 27, 1950 in San Francisco. Very fast, he has
become a very established musician in the alternative scene, fusion
and symphonic rock.
His work with Frank Zappa has
become legendary.
The style of
Bozzio is full of unusual rhythm tempos and wayward musical passages,
a pleasure to watch and listen to.
CREDITS:
Bozzio is standing at the top of the world since the end of the
seventies when he performed the complex drums for Frank Zappa. (The
Black Page). Since then he played in a lot of different bands amongst
them you find UK, The Brecker Brothers and Jeff Beck.
But
also Iggy Pop, Duran Duran, Mick Jagger and Deborah Harry could count
on his skills.
Since the beginning of the nineties he’s working on solodrum pieces,
with a lot of attention for musicality. The list of LP’s, CD’s and
videos with Bozzio is too long to put here.
And his awards also deserve to be mentioned: ‘Hall of Fame’Award’,
‘Clinician of the Year’ (twice), ‘Best Drummer’ (Japan), ‘Best
Drummer’ (Holland), etc.
DRUMSET:
His very extensive drums (Bozzio calls it a “microcosmic orchestra”)
is very impressive: 62 parts with 8 pedals for 4 bassdrums, 3 HiHats
and a piccolo tom, 12 chromatically pitched toms, handdrums and 43
cymbals.
BOZZIO IS COMING TO
DIEST!!: On special request of
Muziekcentrale Adams, Terry Bozzio is coming to Diest. One evening,
one drummer, it will be a big adventure, a fascinating spectacle. To
see Bozzio go all the way is a sensation you must see.
This performance is also made possible by Sabian Cymbals and DW drums.

Spyral
Spyral signed to ProgRock Records
Progrock Records: “We are happy to announce that German band Spyral is
part of our family.
Spyral
has a heavier sound and is quite enjoyable to listen to.”

Even though Progressive Rock enables musicians to weave any kind of
music they appreciate into the fabric of their own compositions, many
excellent Prog Bands tend to rely on a small choice of patterns that
have become trade marks of this genre. At the same time, with their
virtuoso performance, they often seem to address themselves to an
audience which is highly sophisticated.
SPYRAL, while still being a rock band, try to keep open-minded about
various musical styles, be they subtle and refined or hard rocking.
SPYRAL do not necessarily aim at an elite listener, but try to balance
their own need for straight hooklines as well as for playful
arrangements.
With their debut album 'Volcano', SPYRAL reveal a very unique approach
to the wide variety of their musical influences.

Chain
Chain signed to ProgRock Records
The
story of Chain is not your average "formed-a-band-recorded-an-album"
story. Chain was formed in 1994 by keyboardist Stephan Kern Bach.
Drummer Thorsten Hannig and bassist Christian Becker were 15 years old
back then and naturally you would assume they wouldn't be ready to
play progressive rock, but these kids could play. Henning Pauly was
the fourth member, on guitar. The band rehearsed for a year and wrote
a lot of material, but could never find a vocalist, so they split up.
The only proof of their existence was a tape recorded during a
rehearsal. Years passed and Henning moved to Boston to study at
Berklee College of Music where he studied arranging and music
synthesis, writing big band music, pop, rock, ambient etc. After his
studies he moved to Los Angeles and started producing a variety of
artists. One day he found the Chain tape and listened he couldn't
believe that after all these years he knew every single note and that
the themes really worked, so he decided to produce an album that
should have been produced 8 years earlier. He spent most of 2002
working on "RECONSTRUCT". In December he found the missing link in the
chain, Matt Cash, an amazing vocalist who adds a flavour to the music
which is somewhat unusual for progressive rock. Henning discovered
after years of writing and arranging that he forgot where his true
passion lies: progressive rock - heavy guitars, driving rhythms,
complex arrangements, great vocal harmonies, epic story.

A band that died a year after it was formed lives again. They are back
and they can't be stopped. 2 days after they got signed to
progrockrecords.com they were back in the studio working on a new
album which is planned to come out later this year under the title
"chain.exe" ! Their sound is somewhere between progrock and
progressive metal with a strong emphasis on themes and vocal lines.
RECONSTRUCT is a concept album spanning the complete history of
evolutionary time. It contains 10 songs (2 of which are instrumentals)
weaved together by seven "Earthscapes", connecting pieces which
sometimes sound more like ambient music or a filmscore.

The members of Chain are all involved in several side projects, one of
which is Henning Pauly's Solo Piano work which earned him some
recognition in classical circles but now has been pushed to the side
to work on "chain.exe". Because of the 10.000 miles between band
members the writing process has changed a little bit but they are
communicating daily to make sure Chain becomes a steady part of the
progressive rock scene.

Aaron English
Aaron English signed to ProgRock Records
If
you are a fan of Peter Gabriel, Dave Matthews Band, Robbie Robertson
or some world music, you are gonna love Aaron English. From the first
few notes of Sea
of Nectar I was totally hooked, and much to my pleasant
surprise we were able to sign Aaron up on our label. Make sure to
request them over at
ProgRock.com and pick yourself up a copy of the album here
Aaron English - All The Waters Of This World
All
the Waters of This World is the self-produced debut album from
Seattle-based piano-vocalist Aaron English. His style is rock, but
progressive and cosmopolitan: "world-beat" in the vein of Peter
Gabriel, Paul Simon, and Sting. The scope of the album is epic, the
five-piece band often augmented by full string orchestrations, Middle
Eastern or West African drum ensembles, a mariachi band, hurdy-gurdy
through a wah-wah pedal or didjeridu layered with programmed beats.

To
bring All the Waters of This World into the world, English built a
studio in a ninety-year-old barn in Seattle and, together with
co-producer/bandmates Patrick Strole and Don Gunn, spent a year
recording over 400 hours of tracks for the album and tackling the
massive task of post-production and mixing. Other core contributors
included New Yorkers Meredith Yayanos (violin), Aerin Tedesco (vocals)
and Miguel Mateus (bass), who flew into Seattle for several weeks of
song arrangement, rehearsal and recording.

The Flower Kings
A message from Roine Stolt:
“I'm currently wrapping up the new Kaipa CD's
overdubs etc. Plus Andy Tillison and I are putting the final touches
on 'The Tangent' project CD's mastering and artwork. Both are due out
this summer on Inside Out As you may have guessed I'm also into
editing of the new DVD film and the needed overdubs, Hasse's voice (
he had 'flu' at the actual recording), plus a few other slipping notes
and chords ;-) Overall the audio sounds very good and with a minor
touch up it will come out just great - maybe even a 5.1 mix .!!!.”
At the end of January 2003 Roine announced to
the Flower Kings mailing list that they were all invited to be part of
the studio audience during the bands DVD recording, which was held on
Monday, February 10th at the Uppsala Stadsteater in Uppsala, Sweden.
The Stadsteater is a small theater (maximum audience 75) but with the
advantage of a very wide stage that lent itself well to the project.
The shoot featured a mouthwatering set in perfect almost 'studio'
sound conditions:-
-
The Truth Will Set You Free
-
Garden Of Dreams (The 50 minute version played
on the Rainmaker tour)
-
Stardust We Are (Full version)
-
Silent Inferno
-
Circus Brimstone (Featuring a large improvised
'Jam' section)
-
Humanizzimo
Approx set filmed length 3 hours!
The great thing was seeing the 'mad'
percussionist Hasse Bruniusson playing with them for the first time
making, with (Pain Of Salvation's) Daniel Gildenlow, a 7-piece TFK.
Unfortunately Saxophonist Ulf Wallander already had a concert
commitment that day or it would have been 8!
All in all they played for around 6 hours with
full retakes of The Truth / Humanizzimo and a couple of sections of
GOD. Add to that a couple of un-filmed practice jams....
A great time was had by all.

Star One – Ayreon
We’ve just received a special message from Star
One headquarters for Space Metallers and Ayreonauts everywhere! Though
many stargazers gathered to witness the landing of the Intergalactic
Space Crusaders for a few performances on earth, we know there are a
lot of you who were unable to see and hear it with your own eyes and
ears. As you may know by now our special agents made high quality
sound recordings of the interstellar band's touch down, and they had
even set up a few cameras to capture this spectacular event on video.
The footage has been collected, examined and will be released to the
public on a double live CD and bonus region-free DVD called 'Live on
Earth'.
Mark your calendars because Star One’s ‘Live on Earth’ is scheduled to
dock in a store near you late April/early May 2003! As we count down
for lift-off of this much-awaited CD/DVD, this site will be leaking
more information regularly, including more images and maybe even some
sound clips. Check back often! Until then check out our heroes on the
front cover of the DVD case.

All artwork for the CD is once again provided by

It will be maintained by the new webmasters Arno Overbeek and Ruben

who will also be designing the database behind
the website soon.
A site like this will never be 'finished', it
will expand itself all the time with new information, news items,

Discography section
will become a huge resource for all things Star
One-related! So stay tuned for more!

IQ
IQ have now started work on writing the
follow-up to “The Seventh House”. Although it’s early days yet, they
are off to a promising start, and a release in Autumn 2003 is planned,
with a likely European tour to promote the CD. Most of the band
members are getting kitted out with the amazing Pro Tools hard-disk
recording software for Apple Mac computer, and this will enable
writing ideas to be exchanged much more easily and quickly.

Martin: "The writing rehearsal which took place
mid Feb went quite well though Pete and John couldn't make it. However
we got quite a lot done, and in particular some fairly old but
previously unused ideas that I've been working on and adding to at
home are shaping up very nicely with the band. The current plan would
seem to be to have the album written more or less by the start of
August and start recording then. We would then be looking at having it
available for a tour in November."
Since reaction to the proposed re-recording of
“Tales From The Lush Attic” has been overwhelmingly in favour, Martin
Orford has begun the pre-production work on this project. Martin
reports that “it’s already starting to sound great, just with
keyboards and guide tracks, so it should be phenomenal when the rest
of the band get involved. I have already done most of the work on "The
Last Human Gateway" and "The Enemy Smacks". There is currently no
definite time-scale for the re-recording of “Tales”, but the band
members are likely to fit it in with their other commitments whenever
possible. There are no plans to withdraw the original version of
“Tales” once the new recordings are available.
Mike Holmes is continuing to make good progress
with the proposed “IQ 20” DVD. Mike is sifting through video footage
taken from the 20th anniversary show in London last year, and also
from this year’s European tour, and he is confident that a great DVD
can be compiled from the material he has. The release of this DVD is
expected to take place later this year, with "Forever Live" being the
most probable next DVD project.

Greetings all Beard fans and welcome to the new web site! (www.spocksbeard.com

It's definitely been a wild ride over the past
year, but things are slowly smoothing out. We know there hasn't been
much information from the band in a while, but that's all going to
change, slowly but surely. There is SO much to take care of, but we're
all getting back to the music, which is where we love to be. Keep
coming back to the site for frequent updates, photo's, stories, video,
and lots-o-music!
We started cutting tracks for a new Beard album
in January. We went back to Lawnmower and Garden Supply Studios, where
we always record. Rich Mouser is once again making the sounds magical.
As of right now, we're in overdub land, doing vocals, guitar and
keyboard tracks. Everybody in the band is giving more then ever before
for this new record and it's a lot of fun to hear and see. We're
planning to have the record out this June. We' re also going to try
and do a few shows when the record is released, and then a full tour
in September/October. WE CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY!!! It has been way to long
and we are all chomping at the bit to get out there. The music on the
new record is going to be a blast to perform!!! - That's all for now
