Saga
Open Letter to all Saga Fans from Steve Negus:
I
think it is appropriate at this time, to let you know that these shows
in July, up to the Hamilton show, (July 12th) will be my last with
Saga.
It
is after careful consideration that I have decided to leave the band.
I
feel that I can no longer function within the present framework, so,
it is time for me to take my leave and move on to new and different
pursuits.
It's not an easy move to make after twenty six years of playing
together, but one, obviously, that I have to make.
This is not the result of some blowout, or fight with any member of
the band, but rather has to do with external circumstances that seem
to be beyond my control.
So,
I wish the other members, Jim, Mike, Ian and Daryl, all the best, and
I know that we will remain friends regardless of the state of Saga.
I
would also like to thank all the fans that have been so supportive
over the years. Without you, none of us could have accomplished the
great body of work that Saga has recorded to date.
Best wishes,
Steve

Silent
Agreement
Silent Agreement is a
progressive rockband from the heart of Holland. The band officially
started on March 7, 2002, when 4 members of former rockband
Corinthians joined forces and began playing progressive rock, a genre
that suits them better. Inspired by old bands like Pink Floyd, Rush,
Marillion and also present-day bands like Dream Theater, Spock’s Beard
and Pendragon, they began writing a concept story. During the writing
and rehearsing it became clear that the band required a good singer to
meet the needs of the music that was created.
All through the summer of 2002 several people
auditioned for this position. However nobody met the requirements. The
band decided to finish the writing process and let it flow for some
time. In October 2002 the band was offered a chance to record a demo
version of two songs at he Audio Visual Academy in Hilversum.
Fortunately they could depend on
Jai Leasa,
our keyboardplayer’s cousin to sing the male vocal lines. Jai has a
great voice and had enough experience with his former band Slammer to
do this.
Silent Agreement has recorded a special demo ready for download. It’s
a six minute progressive rock song from the upcoming concept album
Burning the Unbearable.
The song is called
Burning the Revolution and gives a fair impression of the album.
For people who would like to burn their own CD they also have designed
a special cover that can be printed.

Faro
FARO is a new musical
project that takes shape from a collaboration of seasoned musicians.
They integrate various influences and an exotic bouquet of styles and
braid them all into the never-aging grand sound of Melodic Hard
Rock/Metal. FARO's main-man is the charismatic lead singer Chitral
"Chity" Somapala. Born in Sri Lanka to a famous musical family, his
parents were well respected artists. He now lives in Germany.
Chity met guitarist Frank
Rohles of INNUENDO (Queen Tribute Band) during several local gigs. The
styles of both musicians combined to form FARO! After several song
writing sessions and jams, FARO was born. Frank plays with a unique
sound, a quite distinguishable style. His musical career spans over
quite a few years. He is best known as a session musician and
songwriter/composer.
After recording a 6 track
demo in 2002 at Frank's Millsway Studio, FARO landed a deal with MAJOR
MTM MUSIC in Jan 2003, which is Europe's leading melodic hard rock
label. Chity contacted Bassist Peter Hahn who had been gigging with
his cover band and the theater musical "WASH." Peter brings liveliness
and pizzazz to the overall sound of FARO. His bass playing is
extraordinarily groovy, which helps to create a catchy backdrop for
the music. Listening to many diverse drummers, it struck Chity to
think of a friend he knew from his prog days. So, he contacted Daniel
Flores! Daniel is known for his tremendous and excellent drumming with
the Swedish progressive metal band MINDS EYE! He has studied sound
engineering at Stockholm music conservatory and also plays in various
musical projects.

The Bands debut album "Dawn Of Forever" is
produced by Markus Teske, who has worked with VANDEN PLAS, IAN
PARRY's, CONSORTIUM PROJECT, SYMPHONY X, SHEELA, MICHAEL SADLER
(SAGA), and many others. The debut album is scheduled for release in
June 2003
On June 7th 2003, there was a release party at
Ducsaal Freudenburg in Germany where these pictures were shot:

Transience
Transience is Lands End
keyboard player Fred Hunter’s side project. On te new album,
Primordial, the Lands End influence is even more pronounced as many of
the tracks were recorded at the studio sessions for their new album,
which is due later this year. All the other Lands End members play
significant parts on this recording with Jeff McFarland contributing
three compositions and co-writing two others.
Guitarist Francisco Neto
supplies some of his most melodic work to date, while Jeff McFarland’s
vocal delivery is the perfect vehicle for his lyrics. Mark Lavallee’s
easily recognised drum work compliments Fred’s great keyboard textures
and bass work.
Long expansive tracks
with lots of instrumental work give the guys time to work their own
special brand of Symphonic progressive.
Not only is there over an
hours worth of Transience music here there is also over 70 minutes of
MP3 material of live, alternate versions and tracks initially intended
for this album but replaced at a later stage in the production
process.
A must for all Lands End
fans.

Savatage
As
most Savatage fans know, in the early morning hours of October 17,
1993 Criss Oliva and his wife Dawn were enroute to the Livestock

severe injuries. Fans mourned the loss of one of music’s most gifted
guitar players.
Fans are cordially invited to join Jon Oliva, along with some very
special guests (TBA), on Friday, October 17, 2003 at the Green Parrot
Pub in Largo, Florida to remember and celebrate the life and
contributions of his brother, Christopher Michael Oliva, at a 10th
Anniversary Memorial concert.

Toto
David Paich to
miss summer tour
David Paich will not be able take part in TOTO's summer tour! TOTO
guitarist and founder Steve Lukather explains the exact reasons in the
following band statement:

©Bildbyrån – Rickard Nilsson
"David will be missing the summer tour due to a sex change
operation. His dreams of becoming who he REALLY is, a woman, need to
be realized. The lie he has been living has been difficult for his
family and for us as a band. It will be our pleasure to introduce
"Davida" in the Fall. This has been a long time coming and we wish him
a quick healthy recovery. We are pleased to announce that
Greg
Phillinganes,
most notable of the Eric Clapton band, will be joining Luke, Mike,
Simon and Bobby for the tour. TOTO".
Greg was handpicked by David who is rehearsing with him.
This text was found on their site a few days later:
As
most of the fans have realised immediately, the last band statement
regarding David Paich’s absence of the summer tour was a joke and just
partially true. It is correct that David won´t be able to do the
summer shows, however the band wanted to bring a lighter and more
funny note to this sad news! There are already much too little
laughter in the world… The band never expected that this joke would be
taken so seriously, especially by the media, as it was so obvious with
the used wording that it was a joke. None of the press coverage of
this "story" was prefaced by any type of confirmation from any of the
agencies who publicized the story. Had they called management to
verify the story's validity, they would have been informed that the
story was a fake. The real reason for David’s absence isn´t funny.
David has to stay at home over the summer due to a serious illnes of a
close family member. David will certainly be back with the band in
fall for the Night of the Proms tour and the preparations for a new
Toto album. As mentioned, the eminent
Greg Phillinganes
will replace David during the summer tour. The band apologizes if this
joke has offended any one. And, a quote from Luke: "We love everyone
and we are sorry it got out of control. One look at Dave and you would
see it's an impossible story."
TOTO to play
Night Of The Proms
TOTO will take part in the 2003 European
Night
Of The Proms
tour which will start on October 17th in Antwerp and end on December
21st in Cologne. The Night Of The Proms is an annual concert series
that combines classical music and pop music. TOTO already participated
in the NOTP back in 1994. Other artists on this year's bill include
the young Chinese classical guitar player Xuefei Yang, the symphonic
orchestra Il Novecento, the choir Fine Fleur and of course John Miles
and his electric band. Check out the complete itinerary on the Tour
Dates page. We strongly recommend hurrying up getting tickets because
a lot of places have been booked in advance and some shows are already
completely sold out.
More detailed information can be found in the official
press
release.
TOTO to write new
album during NOTP
TOTO have decided to start writing a new album of original material
during their 10 weeks stay in Europe for the Night Of The Proms
concert series. Right now they're working on the concept and
discussing ideas but Luke says they probably won't be able to know
what the style will be until they get actually started.
TOTO DVD finished mixing
Simon has just finished mixing the upcoming TOTO DVD. He says it was a
lot of work, almost like mixing two DVDs, but he's extremely happy
with the result. "It looks and sounds great", he says. The DVD is now
tentatively scheduled for a September release.

Enchant
News from Enchant:
We just finished our new CD entitled "Tug of War" to be released later
this summer. It has 10 tracks and is slightly over 65 minutes long. I
do believe there will be a Limited Edition version as well that will
feature a live bonus track. Tom Size & I mixed it again and Ken Lee
mastered the record as usual. I think it is the best sounding CD we've
made to date! Thomas Ewerhard has done the artwork for the cover. We
are also talking about touring at the end of summer, beginning of
fall; I'll keep everyone updated as information becomes available.
Thanks for being patient and be thankful that there was only a year
since the last record this time around! The album will be released in
Europe on the 28th of July and in the States on the 29th of July.
-Doug
The album will be followed by a European tour with Prog legends,
Spock's Beard. "Tug of War" also debuts new keyboardist, Bill Jenkins,
who is a software designer for KORG. "He walked in and knew all of our
songs," states Ott. "He totally
blew us away."
