Nearfest 2005
Riverside cancels;
Knight Area steps up royally
Due
to unforeseen work visa issues, Polish quartet Riverside has had to
unfortunately drop out of the NEARfest 2005 line-up. Both Riverside
and NEARfest regret the cancellation, but have left the door open to
possibly work together again in the future.
As their replacement, the Dutch symphonic band Knight Area (another
Laser's Edge act) has graciously accepted the invitation to play the
festival next summer. Knight Area made a big splash last spring with
their debut album, "The Sun Also Rises". A conceptual work conceived
over a 20-year span, brothers Gerben and Joop Klazinga finally
composed and recorded the music between 2001 and 2004. Gerben
(drums/keyboards) and Joop (flautist) called upon an assortment of
musicians from the Dutch progressive rock scene to help them complete
their vision. According to Ken Golden of The Laser's Edge, "the
results is a stunning work of epic progressive rock that will appeal
to fans of Camel, Pendragon, Genesis, and IQ." Knight Area is also not
afraid to add a little edge to their brand of symphonic rock as well.
The band played two raved-about live performances in Holland at the
end of 2004 that blew audiences away.

Knight Area employs a full sonic palette, including Mellotron, flute,
Hammond organ, liquid lead synth, soaring guitar solos and dramatic
vocals. A full seven-piece version of Knight Area will adorn the stage
to open Day Two of NEARfest 2005

Ayreon
Ayreon 10th
anniversary
Arjen: “I just finished recording and mixing a semi-acoustic bonus CD
for the re-issue of my first Ayreon album 'The Final Experiment'. It
will be released February 28th, 2005, which is very appropriate
because 2005 will mark the 10th anniversary of this album, and thus
the 10th anniversary of Ayreon! This bonus CD-- which started out as
an idea to record just a couple of acoustic tracks with guitar and
vocals but became a full CD on its own-- features some musicians you
already know but also some new names. You can check
the site for all the details. You might also be interested to know
that, just as I introduced Ambeon's Astrid van der Veen on my
'Ayreonauts Only' release, some of the new musicians on this bonus CD
will also appear on my upcoming CD...”

New Project
Ah
yes... the new CD... First off, it will be an entirely new
project/band and I fully intent to make it sound very different from
my other projects Ayreon, Ambeon and Star One. This actually means
that ...if I succeed... there will be no analog keyboards, there will
be no concept and there will be just one singer (there, I said it out
loud, so now I have to stick to it!). I know I am not supposed to talk
about this yet because it's far too early (and my manager Yvette will
probably kill me for this) but I really can't stop myself from
revealing the vocalist for this project to you (just don't tell anyone
I told you) ;-)
The singer is the very talented and beautiful Marcela Bovio from
Mexico, who sang the part of 'Wife' on 'The Human Equation'

The Tangent
From
www.thetangent.org
:
At last we are able to announce the new lineup of the Tangent. Firstly
we have to announce that sadly, Roine Stolt will NOT be playing
with the Tangent this year, and this includes all the gigs already
organized, both in the USA and in Europe. He is replaced by fellow
Swede, the amazing Krister Jonsson who many of you will already
have met and been dazzled by in Jonas Reingold's project Karmakanic.

Jaime Salazar, former drummer with the Flower Kings, replaces
Zoltan Csorsz- the current drummer with the Flower Kings... in
a kind of weird reversal of history.

Andy Tillison and
Sam Baine continue as before on keyboards and vocals...
Jonas Reingold remains with the band (and remains also with the
Flower Kings!!) and Theo Travis, the saxophonist and flautist
who played such a crucial role in The Tangent's second album
will make his debut live appearances with The Tangent on this next
series of gigs.
In short.... the Lineup for 2005....
Andy Tillison - Keyboards & Vocals
Sam Baine - Keyboards & Vocals
Jonas Reingold - Bass Guitar
Theo Travis - Saxophones & Flutes
Krister Jonsson - Guitars & vocals
Jaime Salazar - Drums
The band will commence recording of a third studio album in the Summer
of 2005, with an expected release in 2006. It's likely that other
musicians will be involved on those recordings, including Guy
Manning as well as others. The album will be principally recorded
at Reingold Music studios in Malmo Sweden, and and Andy & Sam's new
studio near Rodez in southern France where they have recently taken up
residence.
In the meantime Andy Tillison is working on an "official bootleg"
style recording of the gigs that The Tangent played in Europe late
last year.
Further news as and when!!

Pineapple Thief
'12
Stories Down' special edition is now
SOLD OUT
The
fans of Pineapple Thief could order a limited edition of ’12 stories
down”, the new album. Now it’s sold out, but Bruce isn’t happy with
the result and decided to remix and change the whole album before it’s
officially released.
The
limited edition is gone, but the official release is just round the
corner. We've had quite a few emails from fans who are concerned about
the differences: To clarify, the 'official' release has a revised,
shorter track order and has been completely remixed. Bruce has also
taken off 4 tracks to reduce the running time.
However, we realise fans who bought the limited edition may be put out
that the official release may the definitive one to own - so we are
making it available to all of you at LESS than cost price. The last
thing we want to do is exploit our true fans. We'll drop you all an
email when they are available.
Anyone who missed out on the limited edition, we will be taking orders
in our shop as soon the new CDs arrive in Jan/Feb 2005..

Anyone desperate to get
their hands on the special 'beta' edition may try
