Final Tour Camel.

A message from Paris Ford. (Camel Productions):

Booking a tour is never an easy process for any independent band, most especially when the band members are scattered around the globe.  Unlike 30 years ago, they can't just grab their gear, hop in a van and drive to any venue that has a stage.   Aah, the 'good' ol' days.  The financial burden of touring is something CP has mentioned numerous times in the past and with the global economy such as it is, this problem has changed only in the sense of having grown larger in expense and smaller in performance opportunities.  As a result, Camel have made the decision they have long-since tried to avoid:  Tour 2003 will be Camel's final tour.

Andrew Latimer assures us that Camel will continue to record music.  But the all-consuming effort and expense of putting a tour together will soon be a thing of the past. "I'll miss touring, no doubt about that.  But we haven't broken enough new ground to ease the pressures and obstacles involved."  he explained to Paris Ford.  "I'm going to concentrate on projects in the studio".

Anima

VIAJERO INMOVIL Records anounces the availability of the new CD release:

ANIMA (Argentina)
Anima
(1989) - VIAJERO INMOVIL Records

Mega rarity discovered just by coincidence at a vinyl store !!!

This group released their sole album independently to a vastly ignoring and unperturbed market. No data whatsoever on the band & album exists anywhere at all in books and/or specialized Web pages. Featuring a style of their own performed around a perfectly balanced blend of sophisticated instrumental tracks and appealing melodies sung in Spanish by a gorgeous female voice, a concoction which reminds us a bit of what Pink Floyd sounded like in the '80's.

Progpower 2003 and Headway Festival
Message from Rene Janssen:

We have a long way to go, but this is the first, short newsletter regarding ProgPower Europe 2003. The exact date (first or second weekend of October 2003) and the first two bands will be announced early March, but we would like to let you know that bands who want to play can send in their material until March 10, that will be the deadline for this year. So far we already have received over 100 demos/CDs and still every week some new ones are delivered by the postman. The quality is extremely huge, so we are sure that we can offer a splendid line-up this year. And because it will be the 5th edition we try to offer something special. If you announce some news on your website, magazine or radio program, bands can check out all the details at our website, www.progpower.com!

Well, this is it for now regarding ProgPower Europe 2003, we have almost 8 months to go, but we cannot start early enough this year. In the meantime I would like to ask your attention for our friends at HeadWay Festival, an idea of Sun Caged drummer Dennis Leeflang in corporation with the venue P60 in Amstelveen (close to Amsterdam). Headway Festival is, besides ProgPower, the second festival in The Netherlands that will promote progressive metal related music. The festival also booked a lot of young talents, together with some more known bands.

This festival will be held the first weekend of April, so those of you who cannot wait until ProgPower, check out Headway, I am sure you will discover some new bands in the progressive scene. Some of the bands that will play are Sun Caged (nl), Prototype (nl), Morgana X (nl), Freak Kitchen (swe) and the progmasters of Pain Of Salvation (swe). Check out the website for the full line-up and all other details, it will be worth it : http://www.headwayfestival.com/ !

Uriah Heep

  • For all of you eagerly waiting for Uriah Heep's new studio album, Mick Box says that the "pedal goes to the metal" regarding it!  (thanks to Mike Taylor for this bit...)

  • Details on the next gigs, especially on Festivals, can always be found at http://www.uriah-heep.com/livedates/index.html

  • At http://www.classicrockfestival.tk , Uriah Heep is in the lead as far as the poll is concerned.  Heep got over 55,000 votes, and this might help a bit to get Heep later in the schedule.  It's a hard task with bands such as Deep Purple, Status Quo, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Wishbone Ash, L.A. Doors & Budgie contracted, but more votes will certainly help... so let's vote!

  • Staf Pypen from Belgium started a Uriah Heep/John Lawton website. Absolutely worth a visit: http://users.skynet.be/staf.p/staf.htm

  • In Italy it has been released a book titled "Guitar Heroes", subtitle "Portrait of 100 legendary guitar players".  A chapter is dedicated to Mick Box and in general to Uriah Heep, a short history of the group is reported and it is recognized that "Gipsy" (together with Black Sabbath's "Paranoid") was the song that started the Hard Rock trend.  The author of the book is Paolo Battigelli, an Italian music journalist and photographer. (thanks to Francesco Berri for the info)

  • The "Uriah Heep Holland Promotion Team" organizes on July 5th a Heep Party at the Langbroek (The Netherlands) Sheepmarket, which this year will be announced as the Uriah (S)Heep market.  Jan Hoogland & Evert Achterberg are working on Heepy ideas for this event.  More details shortly!

  • As Ken Hensley is currently very busy recording his new studio album "The Last Dance", a studio report was added to his website at http://www.ken-hensley.com .  Check it out!  Soon photos from the studio sessions will be added too...

Finally after many years, Aeolus finished their debut album and is proud they signed a record deal at LaBraD'or records! The conceptalbum "Dust on the mirror" contains 11 songs and travels through many different styles of music and let the listener touch the feelings of the character Jason. The orginal founders of Aeolus, Michiel Kramp (synths, piano) and Jurrie Teeuwen (guitar, bass) created together with singer-songwriter Raymond van Kooten this amazing piece of art and were able to record the whole album with the help from many friends like: Matthijs Hekking (drums/percussion), Ron Oppelaar (sologuitars), Ruud Groenendijk (acoustic guitars), Femke Feenstra (female vocals) and more.

The album "Dust on the mirror" will be released march 2003 and will be available worldwide. To get your hands on the

Satellite

Satellite's debut album is finally going to be out in about two weeks from now!!! The official release date is February 27, but I think there will be a few more days before the record company actually releases it. The booklet is in the print right now! Wojtek Szadkowski, Satellite, has a deadline to give the music to the record company on February 24. Everything is ready and Wojtek is just giving some final touches to the album.

I know it took a very long time to release the album, but I can assure you it was worth the wait. I listened to the demo and, in my honest opinion, the album is going to be better than Collage's "Moonshine"!

Just take a look at the new line-up:

Wojtek Szadkowski (Collage): Drums, Percussion, Additional Guitars, Keyboards, Backing Vocals
Robert Amirian (Collage): Vocals
Mirek Gil (Collage): Guitars
Sarhan: Guitars
Darek Lisowski: Keyboards
Krzysiek Palczewski (Collage): Keyboards
Piotr Żaczek: Bass Guitar
Przemek Zawadzki (ex-Collage): Bass Guitar

I think those changes in the line-up themselves were worth the wait! It looks very much like Collage now, isn't it? The only difference is that all music and lyrics were written by one man, Wojtek Szadkowski. Fortunately, he also is the one who wrote most of the music for Collage albums.

I almost forgot. There will be a guest star on the album - Maciek Meller from Quidam. He is going to play some guitar solos on the title track and "On the Run."

Artwork by Mark Wilkinsson (known by his Marillion cover-artwork)

Please check Satellite's website for more details. We have added new pictures, lyrics, and detailed credits.

The next issue of Prog-résiste (n° 32 - april 2003), a Belgian magazine on progressive music, will be very special, especially for the Belgian readers. There will be a big special (20 pages) about Machiavel, with the focus on their progressive period. (76-79).

You will find the following items in that special:

  • A complete history of the band.
  • A big interview with Marc Ysaye, drummer of the band from the start and now the manager of Radio 21. (belgian radio)
  • A large interview with Albert Letecheur, first keyboard-player of the band and their major composer of their progressive period, who disappeared from the scene since 1981.
  • An interview with Celle, designer of their covers of “Jester” and “Mechanical Moonbeams”, which you will certainly remember.
  • An article, signed Piero Kenroll (from Prog-résiste)

Yes

Yes regret to announce that due to a recent back injury sustained by Jon Anderson the band is forced to postpone their tour of Southeast Asia, Japan, and Australia until the Fall.

Jon fractured three vertebrae over the Christmas holidays in an accident. Under doctor’s orders he will be unable to travel or perform while he recovers, forcing the band to postpone the opening leg of the Full Circle Tour. Most of the dates, which were scheduled to start February 16, were sold out and efforts are underway to reschedule for later this year.

"The entire band and I are very disappointed about having to postpone this tour, which we were really looking forward to doing," says Jon. "I personally appreciate the understanding of our fans, as it is certainly not in our history to cancel or postpone tours. We are eager to reschedule the dates in these territories as soon as possible."

The band is indeed close to finalizing replacement dates, possibly in September (dates reportedly disclosed are not yet confirmed). Due to this postponement Yes may not perform in North America this year, though that remains to be seen.

However, this will not affect the band's plans to tour Europe in the summer. The Full Circle Tour will now begin in Sweden on June 7, and with the success of the shows already on sale Yes will probably tour Europe through the end of August. New dates have been added and can be found on the Tour page (many dates are already on sale).

Steve Rothery:

“Stranger by the Minute is very much a guitar based band with both Matt Prior (Bonnie Tyler's guitarist/producer) and myself letting rip with a solo or two whenever possible! Chris Difford from Squeeze is also going to join us for a couple of songs. Think "The Commitments" meets "ZZ Top" and you'd be halfway there.”
