Nektar

"Journey to the Centre of the Eye", "A Tab in the Ocean" and "Recycled" set to be remastered in February 2003!!

Following long discussions with Bellaphon Records it now looks pretty certain that February 2003 will see Roye Albrighton in a mastering studio in London to oversee the remastering of "A Tab in the Ocean" and "Recycled". These albums will be remastered from the original master tapes. In the case of "Tab", the original German mix from 1972 and the the US Mix from 1976 will be added to this single CD. Nektar's first album "Journey to the Centre of the Eye" will be faithfully remixed from the original 8-track master tapes, retaining all original balances, to give the album a new clarity and the single "Do You Believe in Magic" b/w "1-2-3-4" will be added. "1-2-3-4" is the original studio recording and this version has never appeared on CD.

The albums look set for a release in late April 2003. More updates, including reports from the mastering sessions, will appear as soon as we have more news.

2002 has been a momentous year for Nektar, albeit somewhat tempered by the cancellation of UK and German concerts. We are in negotiation to arrange shows in 2003 for Europe and the USA and to begin recording on a new studio album which will be the first to feature the original Nektar line-up since 1975!!

Anathema

Danny Cavanagh will give a free concert in Apeldoorn on Saturday December 28th.

There will be a lot of Anathema songs, real old doomtracks who will get a piano version, and some covers. There probibly will be covers from Nick Drake (his big favourite), Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Dire Straits; Jimi Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac,… so it will be worth attending. One of his brothers will assist him during some songs. I suppose it will be bassist Jamie, who lives in the neighbourhood.

Place to be :

Rockcafé Ozzy, Hoofdstraat 162, 7311 BC Apeldoorn

The gig starts at 21:30.

The Gathering

Message from The Gathering:

We are really proud to tell you our new album ‘Souvenirs’ (psyn 0004) is finished! Throughout the last 2 years we worked on 20 songs, which 3 of them were released on our miniCD ‘Black Light District’ (psyn0003), released this summer. The band celebrated their 12½ years of making music, and signed a deal with Psychonaut records, the bands own imprint record label. Because of the huge success of this miniCD (11.500 copies sold worldwide!) we decided to release our new full length ‘Souvenirs’ on Psychonaut too.  ‘Souvenirs’ will be out in Europe the 24th of February 2003 in Europe, and rest of the world will follow the 12th of March. The album will contain the following 10 tracks:

-These Good People                 -Souvenirs

-Even The Spirits Are Afraid         -We Just Stopped Breathing

-Broken Glass                       -Golden Grounds

-Monsters                           -Jelena

-You Learn About It                 -A Life All Mine

What can we say? We think we made the best Gathering record ever. ‘Souvenirs’ breathes a modern, dark and gloomy sound in which we tried to reach a perfect musical balance between organic and electronic sounds, without forgetting the atmospherically, psychedelic attitude. Together with producer Zlaya Hadzich (Sonic Youth, Motorpsycho, Low, Agrésion) we streamlined a mere 55 minutes of pure music, with help from some people, like Trickster G (Ulver), who sings the song ‘A life all mine’ together with Anneke. We tried to escape the pigeonhole of nowadays music, and made an album bending modern sounds into beautiful, experimental and emotional music. Diversity and unity together. We think we succeeded. Hope you think the same.

Of course we will promote the album with an extensive tour through Europe and the rest of the world. The first leg of the European tour will start half March, which will bring us in Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Switzerland and Czech republic. In May we will do the Benelux and a lot of festivals. The second leg of the European tour will bring us to Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, Mexico and Greece, though we have no confirmed dates yet. Fact is 2003 will be a year full of touring.

The Gathering wishes you a happy Christmas and a superb 2003! Hope to see you all!!!

Camel
There was a Bonus Track on the Japanese release of “A Nod and a Wink”. Japan is the only territory in the world to which Camel Productions grants a license to manufacture. Being a 'conventional' record company, there are strict procedures that must be followed and that means a new album requires 3 months to push through the system before it can be released.
CP is anything but conventional.
The moment stock arrives, a new album is officially released. 'A Nod and a Wink' was released 6 weeks ahead of Japan's release so a bonus track was added to give some incentive for Japanese fans to buy from their own territory and to protect the record company from imports.
Now that enough time has passed since the release of 'A Nod and a Wink', imports are no longer a threat to Japanese sales and CP is offering the bonus track, titled "After All These Years" as a free download on their site

Gordian Knot

Bassist and composer Sean Malone's Gordian Knot project makes a welcome return to the recording scene early next year with the release of Emergent on the Sensory label. Emergent is the second Gordian Knot release and Malone has assembled a stellar group of musicians for one of the most highly anticipated progressive releases of the last few years.

Malone is joined by onetime Cynic bandmate Jason Gobel on guitar and the legendary Yes/King Crimson drummer Bill Bruford. This is the trio Sean describes as the “core group,” with a mind-blowing array of guests helping to fill out the sound: Steve Hackett on guitar (Genesis), Jim Matheos on guitar (Fates Warning), and fellow Cynic players Paul Masvidal (guitar) and Sean Reinert (drums). Playing with these musicians is something Sean describes as “simply incredible.”

The eponymous Gordian Knot debut album, released in 1998, saw Sean team up with luminaries like Sean Reinert (Cynic), Trey Gunn (King Crimson), Ron Jarzombek (Watchtower, Spastic Ink) and John Myung (Dream Theater).

Now, in 2002, Gordian Knot is ready to present its second release, Emergent. Similar to the debut, Emergent is what Sean describes as “instrumental music written from a vocal perspective. There is structure similar to vocal music where you expect verses and choruses, though the verses are through-composed solo sections, and choruses retain an integrated melodic framework. In other words, it’s not just jamming.”

Bazart, Den Haag.

The tribute to Rob Rehorst on december 27 has been postponed to a later date. But there will be 3 bands to give a gig that night in the same venue. (the Bazart in Den Haag, Holland):

1) November, 25 minutes acoustic symfo from the band that became known from their CD “The First Of November”(1994), who especially for this evening will play together again. (They also play in the Spirit of 66 in Verviers on December 29th).

2) Mangrove, 50 minutes modern symphonic rock from a new band from Holland from Apeldoorn. They have a demo CD entitled “Massive Hollowness” and will release their first official sympho album early 2003.

3) Plackband, 50 minutes real seventies symfo. Their CD “After The Battle” not only does very well in Holland, but sells very well in other countries. That’s why this band will make their debut abroad in the Spirit of 66 in Verviers in Belgium on December 29th. Since the spirit is “the place to be” for symphonic rock bands in Belgium, it’s important to get ready for it and play well on this evening in the Bazart.

At this moment the following parts for the new Consortium III album are finished.
Lead Vocals, all keyboard and piano parts from Joshua Dutrieux (Elegy), Bass tracks with Jan Bijlsma ( C II & Vengeance) and Marcel Van Der Zwam (Ian's colleague from his solo albums). Also appearing along side Casey completing a fantastic powerful rhythm section is bassist Robert Finan (Robert recorded previously with Consortium in a Led Zeppelin Tribute CD and back in '99 on an Iron Maiden Tribute CD.
Kamelot guitarist Thom Youngblood is scheduled to record some killer guitar tracks and Mike Chlasciak (Rob Halford Band) has already recorded a ripping guest lead solo guitar .

  • A note from Tony Levin: “I keep a road diary of Peter Gabriel's Growing Up Tour on my website – www.tonylevin.com -  already over 10 pages, it's got lots of current diaries and photos, including all audiences!”
  • Jorn Lande has left Ark. The reason is that Tore Ostby and John Macaluso wanted to enter the studio within a short time, but Jorn wanted more time to work on songs and stated that he don't want to do it in a hurry. Jorn says it takes time to do a follow-up to the excellent "Burn The Sun" CD. The guys are still good friends.
Jorn will be heading out on tour with Masterplan early next year as support for HammerFall.
  • Marillion has a new financial plan for their new album. More info on http://www.marillion.com/news/newalbum/ . There are several links to read the text in your own language.
  • TOYZ has decided to continue without Monica Page.
For the time being, we will work in new instrumental material in Prog-Rock style, and we will search for a new keyboard player.

Landmarq

Landmarq are pleased to announce the arrival of Gonzalo Carrera as the band's new keyboard player. For the last three years, Gonzalo has been the keyboard player for 'Yes' tribute band, 'Fragile'. (See below for a brief biography on Gonzalo).

Tracy Hitchings: "...As much as we will miss Steve, we knew it was important to find a replacement as soon as possible but didn't think we would be fortunate in finding a suitable player so quickly. We have a great deal to do in bringing Gonzalo 'up to speed' with both old and new material, but he is raring to go and we're looking forward to continuing our plans for world domination (haha!)..."

Welcome, Gonzalo!

Biography of Gonzalo Carrera
================
(Señor) Gonzalo Carrera is from the north-western area of Spain and has studied jazz and modern harmony. An admirer of classic progressive bands such as Jethro Tull, Genesis and Yes, he formed his first band, the award winning 'Madeleine Green'.
In 1992, Gonzalo moved to Madrid and joined established prog band 'Galadriel', with whom he recorded two albums (Musea).
He made the move to the UK in 1996 and played various styles of music including a stint with soul singer Angie Brown. Following an approach from Clive Bunker and Glenn Cornick, Gonzalo joined the ex-Jethro Tull members in their new project called 'Oak'. The band undertook a tour during 1998, culminating in an appearance at a Jethro Tull convention in Northern Italy.

On his return to the UK in 1999, Gonzalo met up with ex-Quasar bassist Keith Turner. Keith had teamed up with ex-Enid band member, Nick May, and they invited Gonzalo to join them. However, at the same time he also learned that a 'Yes' tribute band (Fragile') were looking for a new keyboard player and as a life-long 'Yes fan', Gonzalo joined 'Fragile' for some extensive touring both in the UK and Europe.

In December 1999, Gonzalo also recorded a CD with drummer Les Binks (Roger Glover, Judas Priest, Ray Gomez and Steve Lukather).
Further details and a full Gonzalo discography will be added to the
Landmarq website in the very near future.
