Since I signed with Snakebite Records, I have been more than busy
with the recording of my new rock opera Room XVII. Most of the
guitars are ready and keyboards are almost done. But a lot of work
shows up when you’re working on such an album, rehearsing the vocal
parts, artwork material, backing vocals,… It’s all very nice to have
a chance to do this and it’s also a challenge.
And now a new
challenge pops up.
The new album will be released in November and will be called ROOM
XVII’.
Once again it’s a promising concept album.
This time I will use a real drummer: Fon Janssen (a.o. Mennen,
Project Fear). MADE IN CUBA - (DVD)
Classic Pictures Entertainment introduces the official DVD release
of… In April 2005, invited by the Ministry of Culture, the Cuban Music Institute and the Swiss foundation, “Association Friends of Cuba” – Rock Keyboard legend Rick Wakeman travelled to Havana, to perform a series of concerts that will forever be recognised internationally as an enormous event for the Cuban people, and a historic moment marked by the importance of one of the first and largest official Rock concerts ever to be performed on the Island. The trip was initiated by the Swiss-Cuban solidarity group which supports and sponsors a hospital in Havana specifically for children with cancer. With the intention of raising awareness for the charity Rick was happy to help in any way he could before continuing his tour to Mexico and Costa Rica. This DVD captures the spectacular performances along with a documentary on this momentous event which will undoubtedly be worthy of an entry in the chronicles of rock music history. “Made in Cuba”, the DVD will present Rick Wakeman with his band the English Rock Ensemble performing to a 5,000 capacity crowd live at the Karl Marx Theatre in Havana, Cuba. Wakeman devoted most of the concert to classic tunes from the 1970s, including songs from his "The Six Wives of Henry VIII" (’73), "Journey to the Centre of the Earth" (’74) and “King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table” (75) albums, plus a recent stage favourite from the “Out There” album called “Cathedral of the Sky” and the YES classics “Starship Trooper” and “Wurm”. A report by AP about the final concert said, “The crowd roared when he played ‘Arthur’ -- the theme song for a weekly cultural program on Cuban television titled, ‘History of Cinema.’” Band Line Up:
Rick Wakeman – Keyboards
DVD Track List Includes:
1) Journey to the Centre of the Earth Sound Options: Presented with a choice of Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS and Stereo sound options. Special Features:
The Road to Cuba: A documentary capturing the behind the scenes
action on Rick’s visit to Cuba
www.classicpictures.co.uk Israeli Alt-progressive rock band, Solstice Coil, announces work on their debut album is finished! The album, due to be released on the 21st of September was mastered by Mr. Tali Katz on the 7/8/05 and will soon be sent to the printers to be distributed in Israel and around the world. It is produced by the band without any outside interference. The album, titled 'A Prescription for Paper Cuts', is the product of two years of extensive and intense work in and outside of the studio. Included in the album are progressive rock opuses 'Selling Smoke' and 'Anyone can Be'. It will also include 16 pages of graphic art by Ofer Vishnia, including a graphic novel relating to the main concept of the album. Solstice Coil's music blends the powerful sound and emotional charge of alternative bands such as Radiohead, Muse, The Mars Volta and Porcupine Tree, with the precise compositions and arrangements of classic prog bands such as Genesis, King Crimson and Yes, as well as influenced by modern prog and prog-metal groups Dream Theater, The Flower Kings, Pain of Salvation and Anekdoten. The outcome is a 50 minutes long journey into an exquisite world of sound and melody that stimulates both heart and mind. Here is the set list for the album:

system from start to finish (over a glass or bottle of wine or
anything else that takes your fancy) and then over and over
again..:-) Source: www.gazpachoworld.com
Looking for .. Number 7 ! It should have been simple..... This is Final Conflict's ( FC's ) 20 th year. Our plan was to follow up the success of our Hindsight album with a release of a retrospective album of some of the band's earlier work . " It Should have been Simple " (working title) got under way in late 2004 and should have been completed just about now (June 2005). This release was to be followed by a number of promotional gigs and the writing of new material for album no.6.
As you will appreciate this has been a blow to everyone concerned as Chris's input into songwriting, engineering, production and artwork is invaluable. He has been able to contribute at a much reduced level this year and we hope this will increase very soon. Work on "It Should have been Simple" has inevitably slowed due to Chris's illness. FC is a family, a democracy, a team, and can only function well with contributions from all of its members. We all want Chris to contribute, but the protracted nature of his illness has meant that we are having to find creative ways to keep up his level of involvement. We have not yet turned up at his bedside with amps and guitars but we will do what it takes to get this album finished. Much of the basic recording of the " It Should have been Simple " album (drums /bass / rhythm structures, guides, etc.) was completed early this year with Chris. FC has continued to work on recording and mixing the other parts, as well as writing new music, in anticipation of Chris being able to assist with the production and mastering of the album. In addition to the 8 revisited tracks, the album will feature the prophetically named title track " It should have been simple ". This all-new track is a creative journey travelling the 20-year history of the FC story and is the dessert to a veritable banquet of Progressive Rock that we hope you will all savour very shortly. " It Should have been Simple " will be out this year and it will include full input from all members of the band. FC-Music August 2005. The next leg of PT's Deadwing European tour campaign is now almost
entirely in place (just Italian shows to be confirmed). The
forthcoming tours of both North Amercia and Europe will include
substantially different material to the tours earlier this year,
including songs new to the live repertoire. There will be several
new films by Lasse Hoile, and PT now also have their own full time
dedicated lighting designer. Dave Dickinson will be working closely
alongside Lasse in creating a new and stronger visual aspect to the
band's shows. Dave has previously worked as LD for artists as
diverse as Jimmy Eat World, Kasabian, D12, The Wildhearts, 50 Cent,
and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra! Opening act at all the UK shows (and on the east coast in the US) will be legendary guitar player Robert Fripp. Opening act for the rest of the European shows has yet to be confirmed. Re-releases
The
final release date for the digipack edition of the 2CD Stars Die
anthology is 26th September. In this scaled down version of the
original box set edition, the Dann Chinn essay charting the history
of the band will not appear, though the individual track notes
remain. SW has also taken the opportunity to substitute the tracks
Fadeaway and Up the Downstair with the recently recorded definitive
versions with live drums by Gavin Harrisson. In the meantime SW is currently in the studio working on new stereo and 5.1 surround sound mixes of Porcupine Tree's 1999 album "Stupid Dream", which has been unavailable for some time.

Happy viewing + listening! Jay Schellen Joins Asia
Hot off their successful world tour in support of their fan and
critically acclaimed album Silent Nation, Asia have parted amicably
with drummer Chris Slade (The Firm, AC/DC). The band immediately
went down their short list of candidates to fill Slade's formidable
shoes. "Jay was always our first choice as a replacement drummer
for Asia", John Payne revealed. "He played on the demos for some of
the Silent Nation tracks and we just clicked right from the start!" Jay is a very well respected drummer in both the studio and on the stage. He has graced the ranks of such notable acts as Badfinger & Hurricane. Most recently, Jay participated in the Chris Squire/Billy Sherwood project, Conspiracy. Asia founding member Geoff Downes added "We are very happy to welcome Jay to the Asia family and look forward to creating some of our best work to date with him behind the drum kit. We would just like to add that we wish Chris all the best and he will always remain a friend of Asia." Asia also enter the studio today to begin recording their follow up to 2004’s highly successful album, Silent Nation. The album, tentatively called "Architect of Time", will be released sometime in the first half of 2006 on InsideOut Records.
