The Flower Kings

New CD Update from Roine

We have now recorded around 70 minutes of backing tracks for the new TFK album.
Zoltan has laid down some, both steady rocking and weird drumming, which sounds excellent.

The working title is: Love Supreme
A few titles ranging from mysterious dissonance to more classic prog and symphonic.(Retropolis & Stardust comes to mind)

  • Love Supreme
  • Cosmic Circus
  • Adam & Eve
  • A Vampire Tale
  • Bach In Stereo
  • Foreign Hands
  • Love Overbleed
  • Starlight Man
  • Babylon

We're working on overdubs and expect to be finished early May.  Release could be as early as July.  European Tour will follow in mid-September.

IQ

(Source: IQ Newsletter)

“Dark Matter” (GEPCD1034) is the new studio album from IQ, and far from resting on their laurels and producing a safe easy listening album, the band have produced a colossal work, bristling with attitude and aggression reminiscent of IQ’s early days. As would be expected from the title, this is a dark, brooding album, but one that contains moments of great melodic beauty. It is pure progressive rock in all its glory with soaring guitar melodies backed up with (unusually for IQ) Mellotrons, Moogs and Hammond organ, and offset by Peter Nicholls’ ever impenetrable lyrics. The classic IQ line-up of Peter Nicholls, Martin Orford, Mike Holmes, John Jowitt and Paul Cook remains very much intact and they are all in great form on this release.

The 24 minute epic track “Harvest Of Souls” is sure to be a favourite with the fans, and those who have had a preview of the new album already are convinced that this could be IQ’s best one yet.

Cirrha Niva
New guitar and bass player joined Cirrha Niva

After several auditions that were held last couple of weeks Dutch Cirrha Niva found themselves two great talented and very enthusiastic musicians.

On guitars the band is joined by Carlo Heefer, a very talented musician from the Dutch music city Tilburg. Two weeks ago Cirrha Niva ended their search for new members after bass player Daniël Huijben came to audition!  There was no discussion needed, everybody directly agreed Daniël was the man for the job. Besides his overwhelming play he is also very motivated and fits the band perfectly.

For the gear freaks among you; Carlo plays an Ibanez S7420 7-string, an Ibanez RG7CST J-custom 7-string (with two Dimarzio custom seven string pickups and the patented Ibanez Double Edge Piezo Tremolo system) and a costume made 6-string Steinberger replica guitar, which he only uses for strange experiments.

Daniël plays a 4-5-and 6 string bass guitar. His 6 string bass guitar is a Yamaha RBX John Myung signature bass.

Carlo and Daniël directly joined the process of new song writing and study hard to get a grip on all former song material.

You can get a glimpse of both Carlo and Daniël on the totally new website www.cirrhaniva.com

Greetings!
- Cirrha Niva

Erg

In 1984 members of Derby Band Minas Tirith joined forces with former Pallas frontman Euan Lowson to become ERG. The band spent in excess of 12 months holed up in a secluded barn in Derbyshire crafting a stunning collection of songs. Sadly, despite strong record company interest, the band split without ever touring or releasing material.

Now in 2004 original members of the band are recording these songs with a view to a 2005 release. Euan is slated to sing.

www.ergmusic.co.uk will be a site all fans of 80's prog will want to bookmark and visit regularly for news and updates on the project as well as images & mp3 clips of the band in 1985 and sneak previews of the new recordings.

Porcupine Tree

THE NEXT ALBUM

Porcupine Tree are now in the studio working on their next studio record, which will be the second issued by Lava Records and Warners worldwide. Many of you will have heard that Warners were recently the subject of a major buy out, but many of the subsequent changes have worked in PT's favour, and the band look forward to making an even greater impact with the new album.

Just before recording commenced in mid March, SW, Richard, Colin, and Gavin selected 14 songs to record from a possible 20. From these the final album of 9 or 10 songs will be selected, with the remainder being used for bonus tracks, singles and downloads. The album will include two 10 minute plus pieces in "Deadwing" and "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here", as well as some shorter songs which will hopefully continue the positive foundation that "Blackest Eyes" created for the band at radio. Sessions are scheduled to finish in early June, with a simultaneous worldwide release planned for September. And of course there will be much touring to follow.

The album's lyric content is based on a film script called "Lullaby" that Steven wrote with his film-maker friend Mike Bennion. Described as a "surreal ghost story", the hope is for it to eventually be made into a full length movie, but in the meantime it has provided the subject matter for most of the new songs. SW wrote a lot of material on his own as always, but for the first time several songs were also written during collective band writing sessions, including "Halo" and "Glass Arm Shattering".

There will also be some special guests appearing on the record, including Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth, and Adrian Belew of King Crimson.

PT Reissues

Stupid Dream / Lightbulb Sun : Lava/Warners obtained the rights to these albums from Snapper in 2002. The plan is to reissue both albums in 2005, with at least one of them also receiving a 5.1 surround sound makeover.

On The Sunday Of Life... : PT's 1992 debut album has been remastered and the packaging improved with the addition of SW sleeve notes and a slipcase. To be released in June.

Voyage 34 : This has also been remastered. The music stays the same but the package has been completely redesigned using new Lasse Hoile artwork. SW was never happy with the original sleeve which was a pastiche of an obscure sixties LSD record. The new sleeve brings the album up date and up to the standard of other PT cover designs, and will also have a slipcase. To be released in June.

The Gathering

It’s amazing what is going on here at the Gathering & Psychonaut headquarters!
All over the world people are so enthusiastic about the Gathering’s concerts and latest albums ‘
Sleepy Buildings’ & ‘Souvenirs’.
On the just finished first international tour leg almost every show sold completely out and people even kept hanging around outside the venues trying to get a listen to the music. WOW!!!
Every week here at
Psychonaut records we receive tons of nice e-mails and the most touching messages are left in the Gathering’s guest book at www.gathering.nl

The Gathering members have experienced a great support from the public during the recent first half international tour.

Anneke, Hans, Rene, Frank and Marjolein are thanking each and every one of you for all lovely words, gifts and enthusiastic response during the tour.
This has really  touched them and keeps them inspired to not sit back and rest!!!
So here we go with some hot Gathering news!!!

The Gathering going to Moscow, Russia!!!

USA re-release first two The Gathering albums!

April 13th The End records will start distribution of the Gathering re-releases 'Always' and 'Almost a dance' for the USA market.

On their first more obscure albums ‘Always’ (1992) and ‘Almost A Dance’ (1993), the Gathering were one of the first acts to combine male grunts with female voices.

This gothic/doom style was very well received and the Gathering was the first to present this combination live on stage. As innovators of this unique style, the Gathering became a role model for current successful gothic/metal bands like Within Temptation, Evanescence, Nightwish as well as After Forever.

CHILE in love with the Gathering!

Besides touring with her band Lacuna Coil, Christina started a TV career and came to the Gathering concert at Transylvania Live at Milan. An extremely warm crowd above 400 welcomed The Gathering in Milan – the show itself was an absolute dream, nearly 2 hours with a great set list, a never ending and beautiful noisy/spacey and a band in full shape. A few songs into the set and the audience was looking and listening in awe. Rock TV besides the interview also recorded 3 tracks from the concert for their TV show.
