Who’s waiting for another live Saga album? That’s the crucial question. Saga, a band that was very successful with their first 4-5 albums, knew a bad period after that and made some better albums from “Full Circle” on. They lost a few members on the way, worked on as a trio and recruited the same musicians again, but then Steve Negus (drums) left them again. And this year, came the news, that even Michael Sadler is leaving Saga, which will probably mean the end of the band.
And still, I can give you some good reasons to buy this album after all. It’s called “Worlds Apart Revisited”, so they play the whole “Worlds Apart” album live. Everyone seems to be doing that, nowadays. (Remember Fish, Queensrÿche,… ) That album is by many considered as one of the best, if not the best Saga record and a complete live recording is something special. And that’s not all, because they added a lot of other songs and putted it on a double disc, including some surprises. Most of the other songs come from “Saga” (4 tracks), “Images at Twilight” (2), “Silent Knight” (2) and “Heads or Tales” (2), the tracks you would expect on a live Saga disc. Less predictable are “Keep it Real” (misspelled on the back cover) from “Network” and “The Runaway” from “House of Cards”, but the biggest surprise is “We’ve been here before” from “Wildest Dreams”.
As usual, the audience is singing along, even a bit too often, because I don’t go to live shows and I don’t buy live albums to hear the people sing the tracks, mostly completely out of tune. But that’s the burden of success! ;-))
The cover artwork is a combination of the two versions that existed. The Decca version with the old man and the map, and the newer artwork with the sunglasses.
The review promo only contained a double CD, but you can also buy a DVD, or even a limited combination of CD and DVD, with a special booklet. So I can’t comment on the DVD, but I’m sure that one will be OK too, knowing the reputation of InsideOut.
The sound is excellent, the atmosphere is great and the whole album brings back memories of when we were young and Saga made some great albums. Priceless, isn’t it!!
