ARTI & MESTIERI have been around for quite a while. This Italian prog rock/fusion band released their first album in 1974 and they survived through various incarnations until the 80’s. Although the 1999 reunion featured 5 of the 6 original members, only drummer Furio Chirico and keyboard player Beppe Crovella remain in the latest line-up. This album was recorded at Club Cittá in Tokyo in 2005. The concert featured most of their debut album Tilt, quite a large part of the second album Giro Di Valzer Per Domani, and a couple of more recent tracks. Their music is interesting, both very melodic and complex, giving all band members ample opportunity to show off their skills. The use of the violin in particular is very well done. Special mention also goes to Furio Chirico, whose drumming is often compared to Billy Cobham. Listening to this recording makes you understand why. His excellent playing is prominent all through the show. Most of the music is instrumental, but the moments when Iano Nicoló sings his parts are also highly appreciated. Highly recommended. |
