This is really
something different. W. Robert Peek, an avid fan of Science Fiction
and active in San Francisco’s (alternative) Rock scene, recorded his
debut album: a combination of both of his interests. The result is
an interesting and sometimes amusing concept album. The lyrics are interesting to read or listen to. Some tell the tale of a dystopian future (such as for example the first song “Earth Minister Keagy Said” which tells off a future in which everyone looks the same), other are Classical Science Fiction stories. The music is generally very laid back indie rock. Despite being the same theme, each song has its own unique style (using various background instruments and effects). The voices vary from song to song and greatly increase the atmosphere delivered by the music, although in some occasions they sound a bit odd. The album itself is well presented; the booklet exists of various intriguing sci-fi drawings, on which the lyrics are printed. |
