How many times can the same guy keep pumping out live versions of the same songs? There’s no exact answer, of course, but there are limits. This live compilation isn’t bad at all. Actually, the former CD pales in comparison. The fact is, it’s perfectly possible to make excellent live performance CDs with the use of our modern day technology. I doubt, however, that all the fans are anxiously waiting for such a CD. Luckily, another new album is soon to be released. Naturally, I don’t need to say anything more about these songs… you shouls know them by now like the back of your hand. The performance then… as always, John Wetton’s singing capacities are in tip-top shape. I had missed hearing John Mitchell’s guitar solos from the last live CD (the reason being that it was an acoustic CD), but they are now present on this CD. Sadly though, there are not enough of them. Geoffrey Downes does a fabulous job as a virtuosic piano and keyboard player. Everything is just as expected… but I do miss the new, the challenging, the surprising feel of it all. Hopefully we’ll get to hear it all on their next album… |
