Uli Jon Roth has always been one of the most innovative characters in rock music. This compilation gives you the best of what the man has had to offer to the world since his departure from SCORPIONS in 1978. Combining rock and classical music has always been a quite difficult task to accomplish – not many have pulled it off successfully. In my opinion, no one has done it better than Uli Roth. CD1 of this collection highlights this neo-classical side of Roth’s, which typifies his work of roughly the last ten years. Beautiful pieces of music, both original compositions and reworkings of works by Puccini, Vivaldi, Bach and Chopin. CD2 is mainly older work. It shows a different side of Roth. This is the guitarist who was influenced by Jimi Hendrix (listen to his versions of ‘Little Wing’ and ‘Voodoo Chile’) and who likes to let his guitar rip. Here you can hear Roth in full rock mode, which often features his phenomenal improvisational skills. Roth fans probably already own just about everything that is presented here - the video bonus track of ‘Cry Of The Night’ might be a bit meagre to justify a purchase. But for those who still have to find out who exactly this extraordinary musician is, and what he stands for, this is a perfect compilation album.
