Thessera was formed in the early days of 2003, with the idea of playing prog metal with elements from different music styles, such as fusion, blues, Brazilian rhythms and classical music. The band has been performing live in a number of shows and festivals, workshops and cultural events, such as opening act for Angra in September 2004. The band is mostly influenced by bands like Rush, Dream Theater, Pain Of Salvation, Angra, Symphony X, … Most of all I’d like to compare them with Pain Of Salvation. Technically spoken this band got a lot of musical talent. This nine numbers counting album is filled with brilliant compositions and played with a lot of energy. The songs are filled with a lot of tempo changes and breaks whereby each musician can spread his talents but the whole album is more than just six musicians freakin’ out on their instruments. The only minus I noticed was (but I also got the same feeling with the Pain Of Salvation albums) that whole sound sometimes is a bit to messily. For those who can live with this negative point and who likes the sound of Pain Of Salvation this album could be the right one for you. |
