Stéphane Desbiens
is the musician giving the first letter of his name to this solo
project. Being a well appreciated studio musician he gets in contact
with bands as the Flower Kings, IQ, Glashammer and Echolynn. He gets
Thomas Bodin (Flower Kings), Martin Orford (IQ) and Fred Schendel (Glasshammer)
to play on his solo album. The influences of these bands are quite clear, evolving from spheric chords over jazzy guitar to hard rock, but always putting the progressive element in front. Desbiens is said not to make any compromises and it shows. The album may be a bit less accessible in the beginning (my mind wandered off to Frank Zappa during the first three minutes), but gradually it turns out to be a masterpiece of progressive rock. Saying that also Snowy White, Mike Oldfield, Genesis and Van Halen crossed my mind proves that this album is extremely versatile and still it is very coherent. The synthesizer parts taste like honey to the real progressive rock fan, but the guitar is the cherry on top of the cake. Desbiens is a really gifted guitar player mastering a lot of different styles and together with Francis Foy he makes gorgeous compositions. Also fans of the bands the guest musicians belong to will in no way be disappointed when they buy this album. Great work! |
