When I was looking for details about this guitar-/keyboard player, I
found that Dudin has Russian roots (his website in Cyrillic –
lso notice the Russian names of his co-players), but his home base
is Philadelphia. The album entitled “Guitar Ballads” immediately
gives you an idea what you can expect from this album. Sergey
Dudin knows how to describe with melody what a poët would do
with words. 50 minutes of instrumental guitar music supported by
attractive keyboard sounds in the background (with one exception:
“Destiny”). Some songs are acoustic, other electric – well balanced
and with some jazzy touch. It is not only the next guitar album in a
row, but a well thought over instrumental album with beautiful
melodies. They will not only seduce the more prog-oriented fan, but
also a larger public. There is more atmosphere and emotion in the
songs than technical performance, although the numbers are perfect
in technical way. Comparable bands to name a few are Camel, Neil
Schon (f.i.: “Cassiopea”), and more recently work of
Steve Hackett. This CD can be played on different moments:
during a nice romantic moment or diner or just as background music.
The vocal “Destiny”, sung by Philip Bolzano, is a very emotional
song with a magnificent production. Although the music on this album
dates from 2002, this is a re-issue from the album, here provided by
an extra video clip of “Cassiopea” & bonus track “Come Back”, even
though I do not grasp that two very similar versions of the same
song appear on this album. In any case, the Russian Mals Records
plans – deservedly - to release more “Dudin” albums in the future. |
