nederlands Review

Ray Wilson, all alone on his acoustic guitar, in front of a Polish audience, is the setting for this live album. A live album, especially for the fans, that’s only available on-line on www.raywilson.co.uk.

Ray Wilson became a little known with Stiltskin, but his mayor breakthrough came with the “Calling All Stations” album he recorded with Genesis. Since then he recorded a few studio albums, but the main part of his releases are live albums. The first was “Live and Acoustic” with his brother Steve. Then there was “Live” with his full band. And now there’s this one man performance, recorded live in Warsaw in 2003.

Every song is preceded by a short story. He has a great voice for singing but he can also amuse an audience with his stories, sometimes emotional, sometimes full of humour. For example, the story of his first day in the studio with Genesis is hilarious. These short stories are on the album as tracks, so you can skip them if you don’t want to hear them.

He certainly proves how great a performer he is by performing these songs all alone. Great versions of his own work but also the Genesis tracks “Shipwrecked” and "Not About Us”. He also sings his tribute to Peter Gabriel (“Biko”), Phil Collins (“In The Air Tonight”) and David Bowie (“Heroes”). His previous bands Guaranteed Pure (“The Airport Song”), Cut (“Sarah”, “Another Day”, and “Forgotten”) and Stiltskin (“Inside”) aren’t forgotten on the set list.

Ray regards this performance as the best solo concert he has done to date. The concert is a fusion of stories, humour and music and gives a special insight into Ray's career.

This album is really made for the fans, because this is the third live album with almost the same songs each time with a different line-up or setting, but I think I’ve got the message by now. I’m really looking forward for some new material by this top singer now.
