From first moment on I am a huge fan of Magnus Karlsson projects so I was very curious to hear this next album from Karlsson’s (Last tribe - starbreaker - Allen/Lande) & Jaime Salazar’s (Last Tribe - Flower Kings) hand. This time, the project was called “Planet Alliance” and shows a more than amazing line-up. The eleven melodic tracks on this Metal masterpiece are all in the same line as Masterplan - Starbreaker - Last Tribe - Allen/Lande but also some markable influences from the other band members too. Karlsson and Salazar played together before in Last Tribe and Allen/Lande but also sound engineer Anders Theanders (f.i: Last Tribe) took care of the production. Soon after the quiet intro, the guitar violence breaks loose. Next to the typical Karlsson sound, this album leaves enough room for melody. Apart from Karlsson, there are three other amazing guitar players: Carl-Johan Grimmark: Guitar (Narnia - Rob Rock) - Mattias "IA" Eklundh: Lead guitar (Freak Kitchen - Fate) - Janne Stark: Guitar (Locomotive Breath - Overdrive) who each give the music a personal touch, completed by two bass players (Daisley & Rosen) and two drummers (Salazar & Johansson). If you are familiar with the sound of the above named projects or bands, you know what to expect: heavy melodic rock/metal with enough room for melody. My personal favourites on this album are “The Quickening” – “It’s Your Cross To Bear” (with a beautiful chorus) – and the well balanced “The Great Unknown” & “Digging Your Own Grave”. An expert does not need more comments to evaluate the quality of this album. An excellent production, amazing musical capacities and a brilliant line-up : this is an absolute ‘must have’ CD ...
