No Rules
is a new Swedish symphonic rock band that began for real back in
2004. They got their name from the fact that they like to use
inspiration from different music styles and like to play whatever
makes the music sound better in the studio. There are also no rules
in the meaning of mixing and recording everything. Their main goal
is to make melodic symphonic rock with an original touch and mixing
new and original ideas without losing the main theme in their songs.
As influences they name bands like Journey, Asia, Deam Theater,
Genesis, Saga, Yes, Marillion, Camel & Black Sabbath. In the
early days Tommy Magnusson was recording in his home studio but he
needed more people to help him on the records. So he started working
with Martin Nilsson to record the drums. Later on, singer Olof
Gustavsson, who is Tommy’s Neighbour, jumped in and decided to do
the vocals after listening a few times to the songs. He wrote the
lyrics on his forklift at work and they started to record them a
couple of months later. Now the album “Where We Belong” is finally
finished after days and late nights working in the studio. This
debut is a 12 track counting album full with heavy melodic rock.
Although the production isn’t perfect the song idea’s and structure
is quit good. From start on after the calm intro you hear dynamic
powerful but melodic rock songs. I must say that I heard better
vocalists than Gustavsson and maybe that’s the minus point on the
album but their biography announce that Jens, who was working with
Magnusson before, is now taking care of the vocal work again. Due to
this facts the album isn’t bad at all and worth listening to. You
can always take a preview at myspace.com and order the album later
on. |
