Has Pink Floyd
engaged new and younger members and have they moved to Poland or is
this a magnificent band playing Pink Floyd inspired music in a
modern version? After listening to this cd I conclude to the latter.
The influences of the Floyd are unmistakably there – too much
elements to mention, from the driven rhythm guitar to the machine
like sounds – but the sound is fresh, without complexes and not a
copy at all. Comparisons can also be made with Polish colleagues
Satellite and with Sylvan. All instruments are so much in tune and the guitar solos are ever so gorgeous, so full of passion that they send the shivers down your spine. No David Guilmour, but don’t let this be a reason to think less of Pjotr Ptonka; he’s a very gifted guitar player without any doubt. ‘Numbers and the Big Dream of Mr. Sunders’ is a concept album, telling everybody’s dream to become a millionaire. A nice story running through the different tracks. The lyrics are well sung, the vocals not being of extreme grandeur but the voice blends nicely with the music. The drumming is never reigning, but very accurate. I wouldn’t be surprised if the drummer told he got inspired by Nick Mason, ‘cause their techniques sound very similar. In ‘Political Hero’ the synthesizers remind very much of those in Pink Floyd’s ‘Shine on you Crazy Diamond’ and once again the ending guitar solo is ever so beautiful. But I’ll stop mentioning the details. This is an album every fan of symphonic rock with moving guitar solos should have in his collection. |
