Mangrove is one of the most internationally sounding progressive rock bands in Holland. Giving an overview of their three albums this double live recording gives proof of their immense musical genius. One can recognize the enormous influence of Genesis in such a way that one might be listening to the legendary band at times. Very strange though is the sound of the bass guitar at times, as if it weren’t perfectly in tune with the other instruments. This problem is gone on the second cd and the bass guitar in Facing the Sunset is gorgeous. For a live recording the participation of the audience is rather poor. This music deserves a loudly cheering crowd, but those days seem to be definitely gone for the symphonic and progressive rock. But that shouldn’t keep anyone from buying this album. If you like gorgeous synthesizers and moving guitar solos you should be heading for your record shop. |
