Hypnos 69 was
founded in 1994, at Diest, Belgium. Their name was appropriately
taken from the ancient Greek god of Sleep and Sub consciousness. The
number 69 stands for equilibrium and stability. Their debut album "Timeline
Traveller" appeared in 2002 and contains bad ass heavy 70's rock.
This release gave the band a lot of attention from radio stations
and magazines from all around the world and they also got the
opportunity to tour in Germany, Holland, France and Czech Republic.
When the band in 2003 presents their second album "Promise of a New
Moon" they introduced the trumpet and sax into their music, and this
release also contains a cover from Rory Gallagher. With "The
Intrigue of Perception", Once again, the band took the best aspects
of rock and refined them into a more jazz sound with progressive
elements whereby some of the listeners might think of the old
vintage Pink Floyd. This new album "The Eclectic Measure" is the
band’s last communal effort, due to a split a month after recording
this CD. The album totally fits their previous releases but is a lot
darker then its predecessors. It also became a melancholic album
with mythic references and must be seen as a concept to listen to in
one session. The story is based on scripts of Basilides from
Alexandria, from the second century. It tells the story of a man
who’s been confronted with himself and it’s been symbolised by demon
Abraxas, pragonist from Septem Sermores ad Mortuos. As soon as you
put the album on you get drowned in a mystic, psychedelic atmosphere
which feels a bit dark but also relaxed. It feels like a trip
through the 70’s in this present time and space. The musical
capacities are quite good and well produced by J.P. Kerkhofs at the
Artsound studio’s during July & August 2006. The cover art and
booklet fits completely with this story and has been realised by the
Italian Malleus. Sadly, the release of this album coincides with the
demise of this cult band. Hypnos 69 developed a powerful reputation,
which placed them high in the contemporary psychedelic rock scene.
The band had a loyal following of fans. They did hundreds of gigs in
Belgium and around, visited some of Europe's finest rock clubs and
outdoor & indoor rock festivals including Roadburn 10th Anniversary
(013, Tilburg), Swamp Room Mania (Hamburg), Psychedelic Avengers
Festival (Berlin), Stoned from the underground (Erfurt), Sauzpif
rocks (Austria). The musicians have been invited to perform with
respected musicians as Ed Mundell (Guitarist Monster Magnet), Gary
Arce (The Sort of Quartet, Yawning Man), Alfredo Hernandez (ex QOTSA,
ex Kyuss, Yawning Man) and Rich Mullins (Karma to Burn, Yearlong
Disaster). For distribution of their album look at: Sonicrendezvous.com Swamproom.de Stonerrock.com |
