German melodic rockers FAIR WARNING are back, and their new record label Frontiers is making sure that everyone knows it. To whet the appetite for the upcoming new album, their first two studio releases are now being re-released, as well as a live-dvd. FAIR WARNING emerged out of Uli Jon Roth’s little brother’s band ZENO and V2. As the band came around in a very hard time for melodic rock, they never achieved what they probably deserved. Still, insiders consider their albums as excellent examples that this music style hadn’t died after NIRVANA and Grunge. Unsurprisingly, their music caught on best in Japan, where they enjoyed massive success. They continued to release some great music, both studio and live. To the fans it was a big surprise and major disappointment when the band folded in 2000, not long after their 4th studio album had been released. But now they’re back… Fair Warning (1992) is one string of finely crafted melodic rock tracks, filled with hooks and strong melodies. Great guitar work, a solid rhythm section, effective keyboards, and the outstanding voice of Tommy Heart. Among the many highlights are ‘The Heat Of Emotion’, ‘Hang On’, ‘Longing For Love’ and the excellent power ballad ‘Long Gone’. Fans of bands like EUROPE, early BON JOVI and GIANT should really dig this. Rainmaker (1995) was the band’s biggest selling album. Another great record, perhaps a bit more mellow than its predecessor, but with songs like ‘Burning Heart’, ‘Desert Song’ and ‘Desolation Angels’ it has its fair share of outstanding tracks as well, to which the band added perhaps a bit more depth than to those on the debut. It doesn’t have the same consistency as the first album, though. Now, let’s wait for the new album, Brother’s Keeper, which should be out in August. |
