Dutch power rock
band A Day’s Work presents an album with an enormous international
character. The band is known for very powerful live performances and
I have no problem whatsoever believing that. This is very powerful
and yet very accessible pop-rock with AOR influences that brings the
atmosphere of summer festivals into your living room. Right from the first track the listener is blown away by extremely well produced power rock with magnificent quiet parts. The building up of energy can be compared with the best music in the genre. The hitsingle “Welcome Home” is carried by a pulsing bass and bears reference to U2 in their early (magnificent) years, Midnight Oil and even a bit to Boston. Still I believe that the hit potential of “My Ambulant Caress” I even bigger. Especially the chorus is so strong that it keeps on haunting in your head for hours.
But the band
proves to be very skilled in making quiet music as well. “Words of
Goodbye” seems to be the perfect emo-rock song with the gentleness
of Coldplay. Gradually the power is being built up towards a
stunning climax that could have been written by Bono and his band in
the late seventies. |
