Phi Yaan-Zek is a guitar virtuoso from a cross-cultural background. Having a father from India, a French mother and growing up in the Celtic lands of Wales, it’s obvious that his music reflects this ethnic mix. This is mainly instrumental space rock with some psychedelic undertones that comes in a spiritual, uplifting mood. The performance is convincing, with special attention to the colourful textures and the various instrumentation. Still, the main emphasis is on Phi’s entertaining, fusion-like guitar.

Unfortunately, in some tracks the music starts to get freaky, like jamming, so boredom invades from time to time. But Phi Yaan-Zek knows how to deliver some fine and original soundtracks, well executed and coming with an ‘underground’ charm. Frank Zappa fans will find some enjoyment here.
