Home studio technology makes it possible nowadays for one-man-projects to play a whole record together and sell it via the Internet. Tésis Ársis is one of many, but in the case of Brazilian Anderson Rodrigues, studying classical piano and guitar besides musical theory doesn’t guarantee captivating music. Admittedly, the man possesses more song writing skills than recently reviewed colleagues like Bruce Main and Bradley Styes (Acuity). But constantly you have the feeling you’ve heard it all before, and with more panache. Still this record is built upon credibility and sincere musicianship, and it does have its moments. Guitar and keyboards create dark and foreboding moods, but without vocals it’s difficult to keep one’s interest going. Nevertheless, for the sake of independent music making, and because of the strength of his conviction, Anderson Rodrigues’s ‘voice’ may be heard. |
