Let’s see. It’s pretty hard to find information about this band, and most of it is in Swedish. As far as I understand, they were a Swedish 70’s band, and this album was their second album, originally from 1978. The band is filed under the genre “TRÄSKOSYMF”, whatever that is. “Gudang Garam” is clearly a product of the 70’s: a bit of Pink Floyd, bit of Eloy, some folky parts, lots of psychedelica… I do have to say that I have quite a few problems with Carin Bohlin’s screeching voice.… I really have a hard time stomaching this. The fact that it’s all sung in her native language doesn’t make it any more accessible to the non-Swedes among us. Still, most of the album is instrumental, so it’s not all that bad. The instrumental parts are even quite good at times: spacey keyboard sounds, fine guitar solos, interesting soundscapes and adventurous arrangements. Not exactly something I would recommend to everyone, but if this style appeals to you, it might be worth checking out. |
