nederlands Review

This was actually the first CD from Phideaux that I had listened to. The first notes may or may not have attracted one’s attention, but for me, it did. The wonderful organ sounds that arose (which reminded me of King Crimson) were then followed by the vocals and these made me yearn for more. There were heavy male voices decorated with lovely female voices. Next came the title track, a masterpiece that lasted more than 20 minutes. The production is fantastic and all the themes and variations really shine through. The exchanging of themes is absolutely delicious and we can hear, once again, those wonderful backing vocals. The instrumental pieces that appear in all the songs really prove the craftsmanship of the musicians. I can make no conscience comparisons with other artists because the whole CD is so strong that a comparison would be detrimental to the talents of Rich Hutchins and Phideaux Xavier. This is progressive rock with an eye for composition and complete, functional virtuosi. This album could be, perhaps, the strongest of the three that I’ve received. This is definitely a tip to climb aboard if you want to get to know this band. I can’t wait until their next CD. It’s amazing how one can be surprised by the unknown.
