Jebo came to life as a result of the incredible song-writing talent of Rob Allen, and the intense drumming of Jeff France, who both played together in the successful act K-Passa. When this band broke up, they recruited Lawrie Jones (Bass), Phil Dudd (Hammond, piano) and James Hollingsworth (vocals) to complete their new line-up, and Jebo was born. With the new band complete, they recorded a promo album. Later on, Phil Dudd was replaced by Nick O'Neill, who also did some vocal parts besides his Hammond and piano work. The band had a few successful gigs, including “rockinbeerfest”, a brief tour of Belgium and a 2-date support with Musical Box, resulting in an explosive show at the Royal Albert Hall. As a continuation of their promo CD, reviewed earlier by Luc Descamps, this is their first full album release. This time, the production was handled by John Burns (Genesis, Motorhead, John Martin) and Ben Findlay (Peter Gabriël, Live 8). With this album, the band is trying to attract attention in the UK, Europe and beyond. This album has a perfect production, and is full of pop-rock material, that is great to listen to. Jebo, as a band, can definitely be compared with the new wave of British sounding pop-rock bands like REM, Coldplay, Keane, Snow Patrol, Jars of Clay, etc. As such, it’s an ideal band for many summer-festivals. The new songs are just following the same line as their earlier material. “Sinking Without You” is an album with a great sound and recognizable music, by a band with great capabilities. Top stuff! |
