The internet is a fantastic medium, how could you explain otherwise that this Russian album would have arrived here in Belgium? It’s a shame that all available information is in the Russian language (booklet, website), they have to learn on terms of marketing at Mals Records. Looking at the pictures, Group 33 seems to be a two piece band (man and woman), no idea if there are other musicians involved. The vocals are taken care by both members, although the female part is more important. A lot of tracks have a poppy feeling and the Russian language remind you of the Eurosong festival. And yet, there is much more to experience than in an average pop song. Sometimes the music tends towards rock and keyboards give it an extra touch. And it’s a big surprise when guitars are starting to scream in true heavy metal style. Some tracks have a gothic-feeling, much in the vein of Within Temptation or Evanescence. But at this moment Group 33 seem to search for their own identity. There is potential for sure, therefore I am looking forward to the next album, which I hope will be in English.
