One of 2005’s most appealing reissues was England’s “Garden Shed”. It wasn’t just the definitive remaster for CD, it also proved the eagerly-awaited revitalisation of a legendary progosaurus that sadly enjoyed its fame too late – by 1977. Yet luckily for us, progheads, music is timeless and thanks to their own label this quintessentially English band is floating on the successful new progressive wave.
Due to the success of the “Garden Shed” reissue, their second album
“The Last Of The Jubblies” reappears once more, ten years after the
initial CD issue. It actually is a record of leftovers, but don’t
let this put you off. The songs are intricately arranged, there was
no half work here. In fact, most of the elements that made “Garden
Shed” such a great record, are here once again: the silliness, the
passion, the skills, the vintage organic sounds. Tony Arnold himself
took care of the digital reediting by enhancing the brightness and
detail, whilst maintaining the character of this rather unique
music. Still, “Jubblies” will remain in the shadow of its brother,
since only 80 percent of the band’s inspiration was used. No
timeless masterpiece here. On the other hand, 80 percent is still
much more than what most rock bands have in stock. So, check this
one out all the same. It’s quite a charming little treasure. |
