If
you like Pink Floydian solos, you must certainly listen to the new
album of Tr3nity. The successor of ‘The
Cold Light Of Darkness’ from 2002 will also appeal to the fans
of this previous album because the music is a continuation of it.
Guitar solos is what it’s all about on this album, although most of
the tracks contain some enjoyable vocal and instrumental melodies.
The
first track “Livin’ a Lie” contains some references to Styx and
Magellan. The piano playing, the guitar sound and the song textures
together with the building up of “From Afar” shove the song in the
right direction. It’s a pity; this quality isn’t maintained in “Run
Before You Walk”. It’s even almost out of pitch from time to time.
The last 3 minutes of this song bring Genesis, from the ‘Wind &
Wuthering” period, to mind. The vocals and melody together with the
piano on “More Than I Deserve” sound very good but too much of the
same makes even this lose its vigour, but there’s an exciting guitar
solo at the end. The song also sounds a bit like Pendragon. The last
and longest track “The Last Great Climb” has to contend with the
same problem: not enough variation to keep you fascinated.
The
leading threads running through this album are the excellent guitar
solos and sound, but lack of variation keeps this album from being
amongst the best albums of the year. Another proof that a good album
is based on compositions. What a missed opportunity with such a
sound and solos! |
