Times are hard for the music lovers of Porcupine Tree. If you’re a fan who wants to collect everything from this band, then you’ll have to reach very deep into your wallet.  The band has produced an enormous amount of material and their record company is re-releasing it. ‘The Sky Moves Sideways’ from 1995, ‘Signify’ from 1996 and ‘Coma Divine’ from 1997 are all being re-released.  In 2003, all of their albums were available in a double CD version with all the same songs as now. These three albums are now available as a double digi pack with the same bonus material as before.

These three albums are a necessary expense for those who don’t have any CDs from this band.  Porcupine Tree plays a prominent role as a prog icon.  As a fan of prog, it would be difficult not to have this CD because these are the most essential albums of the band.

The live album, ‘Coma Divine’, broke through to a wider audience and contains the most important songs from the other two albums.  ‘The Sky Moves Sideways’ and ‘Signify’ both possess modern, atmospheric music that are full of Pink Floyd style solos.  These were well translated onto the ‘Coma Divine’ CD.  The extras that you find on the bonus CD are by no means of a lower quality.  They end up helping to complete your collection.

These re-releases will help to fill the void until a new CD appears.  Of course, you’ll have to wait and see in which direction Porcupine Tree will evolve.  ‘In Absentia’ verifies an evolution because it sounds very different (but not less interesting!) from the albums mentioned above.  In the meantime, we can enjoy the lighter version of Porcupine Tree in the form of  Blackfield.
